GIANTS/BRAVES Over 8.5 +100 ? I know that it is generally difficult to play an Over in any game involving the Braves, but I feel that this will be a higher scoring game than many people think. Yes, Tom Glavine is among the NL leaders with his 2.71 ERA, but curiously, he has done his best pitching on the road. He has now gone 5 consecutive home starts without recording a Quality Start, although in fairness, he probably would have gone the required 6 innings for a QS in his last home start if the Braves didn?t have an 8-run lead and if there wasn?t a rain delay. Over those last 5 home starts, Glavine has an alarming 5.92 ERA and an uncharacteristic 1.77 WHIP. Also, the last time he faced the Giants at Turner Field, he was touched up for 5 earned runs and 9 hits while lasting only 5.1 innings. He is facing a Giants team that is hitting the ball extremely well right now, with a team batting average of .301 over the last 10 games, including a whopping .341 average vs. left-handers over that stretch. San Francisco has hit southpaws well all season, hitting .283 against them. Given Glavine?s difficulties at home, it is no surprise that the Over is 9-6 60.00% in all his home starts. As a team, the Over is 6-3-1 in Atlanta?s last 10 games. Livan Hernandez may have survived the trading deadline, but he is still a very disappointing 7-12 with a 4.58 ERA this year. He has been slightly worse on the road, where he is 3-5 with a 5.05 ERA and a poor 1.55 WHIP, allowing an Opponents Batting Average of .309. The Braves have already roughed him up once this season, getting to Hernandez for 5 earned runs and 10 Men on Base in just 4.1 innings on May 15 at San Francisco. After showing some improvement in early July, Hernandez has once again regresses in his last 2 starts. He was especially bad in his last start, getting tagged for 6 earned runs and 12 Men on Base in 6 innings by a struggling Cubs lineup in San Francisco. The Over is 6-3 66.67% in all of Hernandez?s road starts this year. As a team, the Over is a very profitable 8-2 in the Giants? last 10 games.
