Fuel mileage is important out at Sonoma so we'll focus on that as well as just making sure that we help to give Matt a car that he can stay on the course and out of trouble with all day. Pit stops are also important for track position this weekend since it's difficult to pass there." Kenseth has an average starting position of 20.2 and an average finishing position of 21.5 at Sonoma. Kenseth will pilot the #17 Ford EcoBoost Fusion.

"We converted this car over to be our road course car and have a lot of faith in it being a strong piece for Sonoma," crew chief Gordon offered. During the accident, Newman spun in the middle of the corner and managed to stay away from the outside retaining wall. But as he was about to put the car in gear and begin driving forward, his Chevy was hit by another car attempting to dodge the melee. After substantial repairs, Newman finished 25th. At Watkins Glen, Newman started fifth. The team had a good strategy going into the race, planning to pit early, but the strategy didn't pan out. Newman recorded a 16th-place finish.
