At the Big Boys Level, "Road Ringers" really doesn't mean much these days, does it ?

Let's get the Giggles going early with our personal selections so we all have time to analayze.

Like that will help, just look at last weeks results  :mj07:

Robby Gordon News

Robby Gordon News

Robby Gordon returns to run Sonoma: Robby Gordon returns to NASCAR Sprint Cup competition this weekend at Sonoma Raceway in the #7 MAPEI / SPEED Energy Dodge Charger. Gordon has been busy during his break from stock car racing; he has competed in several off-road races and posted wins at The Mint 400, The Parker 425 and The Silver State 300. Also, most recently announced the return of stadium truck racing Robby Gordon's Stadium SUPER trucks - resurrecting what was once Mickey Thompson's vision. Last time Gordon and his team were on a road course was the NASCAR Nationwide Series in Montreal, where they lead several laps in the #77 MAPEI / SPEED Energy Dodge Charger. They are excited to get back to road course racing and have been busy preparing a car that they hope will have what it takes to win at Sonoma Raceway, a track where Gordon is not a stranger to victory lane. Winner of the 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at the Sonoma, Gordon will be making his 15th start at the 1.99 mile road course. He has also recorded three top 5 and four top 10 finishes. "Even though I have been out of the NASCAR scene for about three months, we have been extremely busy with off-road racing and the introduction of SST. We tested the #7 MAPEI / SPEED Energy car last week in South Carolina and look forward to competing with the regular NSCS group this weekend. Sonoma is a fun race track, and we have had great results there so I am looking forward to putting on a good show for our fans," says Gordon (RGM), see an image of the car Gordon will run at Sonoma on the #7 Team Schemes page.(6-22-2012)

Sonoma may be Robby's last Cup race of 2012: Robby Gordon, now 42, and a NASCAR headliner since 1991, as well as one of the world's premier off-road racers, says Sunday's Save Mart 350 will be his last NASCAR race of the year. And he's leaving his stock car future in some doubt, as he focuses on his own brand new racing series. Gordon has been idled since failing to qualify at Bristol in March. This weekend's race will be only his third of the year. He finished 41st at Daytona and 41st at Phoenix. Robby Gordon, curiously says he's not planning on running Watkins Glen, the tour's other road race, and a tour event that he won in 2003. And for a man who wears confidence like a driver's suit, and who exudes positive vibes, no matter what the situation, Robby Gordon here seems a bit up in the air."This could very easily be our last Cup race this year, but if it is, we'll be back at Daytona for 2013," Robby Gordon says. "This is the big series, this is the big game. But at this point in my career, does it make sense to run all 36 events? No. We'll probably run a handful of races each season from here on out, unless something crazy happens and we land a big program. I'd love to do that, and we've got the capability and expertise to do that...but I just don't think that's going to happen." However without a Detroit manufacturer contract of some sort, to work with, it's virtually impossible to play the NASCAR game anymore. Robby Gordon is currently with Dodge....and Dodge executives have said nothing about any 2013 plans, and won't even confirm any commitment to NASCAR next season. Toyota, Chevrolet and Ford have not expressed any interest in adding teams.(MikeMulhern.net)(6-23-2012)

Sonoma Goodyear Tire Notes:

Sonoma Goodyear Tire Notes:

Sonoma Goodyear Tire Notes: Teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will run the same Goodyear tire code on all four tire positions at Sonoma . . . this is the first time Sprint Cup teams have run this code at Sonoma, although they did run it at the circuit's other road course at Watkins Glen in 2011 . . . Cup teams have also run this code on the right-side for the last two races at Martinsville . . . compared to what was run at this track last season, this tire features just a slight compound change . . . as on all NASCAR road courses, teams will not run inner liners in their tires at Sonoma. See tire codes. tire pressures and more on the Sonoma Race Info page - Goodyear section.(6-21-2012)

NASCAR side skirt and sway bar rules change:

NASCAR side skirt and sway bar rules change:

NASCAR side skirt and sway bar rules change: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams received a technical bulletin today (6/20), outlining the following rule changes effective 6/27:
? Ground clearance for all side skirts has been increased by ? inch. Right side skirts must have a minimum clearance of 4.5 inches/maximum clearance of 5 inches. Left side skirts must have a minimum clearance of 5 inches/maximum clearance of 5.5 inches. This is the next step in looking at the aero package for intermediate race tracks.
? Both the right and left side rear sway bar arm connecting links must be perpendicular to the ground from all viewing angles when car is at ride height. This is an effort to maintain consistency in rear sway bar setups.(NASCAR)(6-20-2012)

who are the cars this week? 7-9-14-24-48 good with me?

Boomer,

I would agree with the 7 and one of the other 4 because they are expected to be in the top 10-12.

#14 is good, he has some work to do :0074

I would like to pick more mid pack drivers that might pull a rabbit out of their ass and sneak into a higher finishing spot.

How about the grey beard

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pit Stall Selections

Some Chassis Selections by Teams for this race

Chassis selections for Sonoma: see the list of many teams and what chassis were selected by the team to run at Sonoma:
MISSING? why are some teams missing? some teams do not report what chassis in the race previews, press releases of websites.
#1-Jamie McMurray: Crew Chief Kevin "Bono" Manion and the #1 McDonald's team will bring Chassis #1012 to Sonoma this weekend. This road course chassis will make its third Sonoma appearance and fifth race, overall. This chassis has finished 15th at Sonoma twice, and earned sixth and 17th place finishes at Watkins Glen in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
#2-Brad Keselowski: and the #2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger team will race chassis PRS-806 during Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma. This is a brand-new chassis to the #2 fleet.
#5-Kasey Kahne: crew chief Kenny Francis has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 5-674. Mark Martin drove this car in both 2011 road course races, finishing 19th at Sonoma and 25th at Watkins Glen.
#9-Marcos Ambrose: the #9 Richard Petty Motorsports team has prepared chassis No. 772 for this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race at Sonoma. This Stanley Ford was previously tested this season at Virginia International Raceway.
#10-Tomy Drissi will pilot chassis No. 802. David Reutimann drove the chassis at Brisol Motor Speedway this season, and Blaney drove the chassis last season at Bristol, Phoenix, Vegas, Chicago, Charlotte and Kansas. Geoffrey Bodine also drove the chassis at Homestead and Texas.
#14-Tony Stewart: and crew chief Steve Addington are bringing Chassis No. 14-731, a brand-new racecar that has never turned a wheel on the racetrack. The Toyota/Save Mart 350k on the road course at Sonoma, Calif., will mark Chassis No. 14-731's on-track debut. Stewart has one pole, two wins, two second-place finishes, four top-fives, eight top-10s and has led a total of 82 laps in his 13 career Sprint Cup starts at Sonoma. His average start at the 1.99-mile, 10-turn road course is 10.1, his average finish is 11.5 and he has a lap completion rate of 98.5 percent. Stewart and the #14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 team prepared for Sonoma by testing May 29 at Virginia International Raceway in Alton.
#15-Clint Bowyer: Primary chassis No. 632 previously raced as the #47 at Sonoma. Chassis No. 690 is the backup and previously raced as the No. 56 in California and Michigan in 2011.
#16-Greg Biffle: and the Matt Puccia led #16 3M US Stationary is bringing primary chassis RK-764 which last ran at Watkins Glen in August 2011 and finished 31st.
#17-Matt Kenseth: will run primary chassis RK-771 which last raced at Watkins Glen in 2011. Crew Chief Jimmy Fennig: "The car that we are bringing with us this weekend to Sonoma was last raced at Watkins Glen last year and we actually took it to VIR at the end of May just to shake it down. Fuel mileage is important out at Sonoma so we'll focus on that as well as just making sure that we help to give Matt a car that he can stay on the course and out of trouble with all day. Pit stops are also important for track position this weekend since it's difficult to pass there." Kenseth has an average starting position of 20.2 and an average finishing position of 21.5 at Sonoma. Kenseth will pilot the #17 Ford EcoBoost Fusion.
#22-A.J. Allmendinger and his Todd Gordon-led Penske Racing #22 Team will be racing their "PRS-808" Shell-Pennzoil Dodge Charger at Sonoma this weekend. This is the chassis that was raced at Richmond in April. Dinger started fourth and finished 16th in that race. The "PRS-807" chassis will serve as the backup. It was in the transporter serving as the backup at Phoenix, Bristol and Martinsville, but has never seen any track time to date. "We converted this car over to be our road course car and have a lot of faith in it being a strong piece for Sonoma," crew chief Gordon offered. "We don't have a large car inventory and some of that is intentional because we will be racing the new cars next season. It is to be determined whether we also race this car at Watkins Glen in August."
#27-Paul Menard will pilot Chassis No. 397 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. Built new in 2011, this #27 Menard / Moen Chevy was last utilized in competition at the 2011 Sprint Cup Series race at the Sonoma road course. In four career Sprint Cup Series starts at the 1.99-mile road course, Menard has finished each of his contested races and completed 99.78 percent of his laps (444 of 445). He holds a 20th-place average starting position and an average finishing position of 23.5, with his best start of third coming in his most recent visit to the road course in June 2011. He also recorded his best finish in the June 2011 event when he took the checkered flag in the 17th position.
#29-Kevin Harvick: will pilot Chassis No. 395 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. The #29 Rheem Chevy was built new for competition in 2012 and will be put through its first competitive laps this weekend at Sonoma. Throughout the course of his Sprint Cup Series career, Harvick has made 11 starts at the California-based facility collecting three top-five and four top-10 finishes. Harvick holds an average starting position of 15.8 and a 16.1 average finishing position at the at the 1.99-mile road course, collecting a best starting of third in 2006 and best finishing position of second in 2007. Harvick has completed 99.9 percent (1,216 or 1,217) of the contested laps, with 10 laps led.
#31-Jeff Burton will race chassis No. 357 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable this weekend. This #31 Wheaties Chevy, built during the 2011 season, was driven by RCR teammate Kevin Harvick last year at Sonoma where he started 26th and finished ninth.
#36-Dave Blaney will drive chassis No. 101 this weekend. The chassis was built in-house at TBR and made its debut at Auto Club Speedway. The chassis was converted to a road course car following a start at Texas Motor Speedway this season.
#39-Ryan Newman Chassis No. 39-651 has just two starts to its credit last season's road course races at Sonoma and Watkins Glen. Newman started fifth at Sonoma and was in the top-five for the race's first 25 laps. But on lap 38, while entering the final turn on the course, Newman was caught up in a multi-car accident that all but ended his chance of victory. During the accident, Newman spun in the middle of the corner and managed to stay away from the outside retaining wall. But as he was about to put the car in gear and begin driving forward, his Chevy was hit by another car attempting to dodge the melee. After substantial repairs, Newman finished 25th. At Watkins Glen, Newman started fifth. The team had a good strategy going into the race, planning to pit early, but the strategy didn't pan out. Newman recorded a 16th-place finish. After undergoing a facelift for the 2012 season, the car will make its first start this week at Sonoma.
#42-Juan Pablo Montoya: crew chief Chris "Shine" Heroy and the #42 Target team will bring Chassis #1014 to Sonoma this weekend. This chassis boasts a victory at Watkins Glen in 2010 and a seventh-place finish in 2011. It finished 10th and 15th at Sonoma in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Chassis #1014 has led a total of 80 laps; two of those laps were at Sonoma.
#43-Aric Almirola:: The #43 Medallion Financial Ford team has prepared chassis No. 774 for the Sonoma race. This chassis is a new chassis. Richard Petty Motorsports tested at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) last month to help Almirola and the team prepare their #43 Ford for the twists and turns of the Sonoma track.
#48-Jimmie Johnson: Chassis No. 543 serves as the primary for Johnson at Sonoma. Chassis No. 590 serves as the backup.
#55-Brian Vickers: will drive MWR chassis 690 the first race for this chassis in 2012. In six starts at Sonoma, Vickers owns one pole (2009) and has led 16 laps. He's finished in the top-16 three times.
#88-Dale Earnhardt Jr.: crew chief Steve Letarte and the #88 crew will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 88-601. Earnhardt most recently raced this chassis to a 15th-place finish at Watkins Glen International in August last year. Earnhardt has scored five top-15 finishes in 12 Sprint Cup starts at Sonoma, Calif. He has completed 93.4 percent of all the laps he's attempted (1,241 laps of 1,329 total) at the 1.99-mile California road course.
#99-Carl Edwards the #99 Aflac Team will be unloading chassis 816 a brand new chassis. It is a new car that the team tested at VIR. Edwards will make his eighth Cup start at Sonoma this weekend. In his previous seven starts, Edwards has one top-five and three top-10 finishes, and has led 14 laps. His average start is 20.9 and his average finish is 16.6.
