GM- Government Motors

yesterday I followed a friend at work to get his vehicle oil change. We dropped it off and went to lunch and picked it up after we ate. He told me that all GM vehicles had to use synthetic oil now, his vehicle is a 2013 :shrug:

My first thought was the government is forcing this to happen since they hate real oil am I on to something or not? If this is true I will never buy another GM product, I drive a FORD anyway

From what I read it sounds like GM is making their motors differently, lubricating with synthetic is better for the engine, that's what they recommend, reading further it seems that if you have a warranty you better use synthetic.
