player info

Derek Morris, Colorado Avalanche - Morris' situation has been upgraded and there is now a chance he could be back in the Avs' lineup in two weeks. Morris suffered a broken orbital bone a couple days ago in a fight and will undergo minor surgery on Tuesday. If all goes well, he will be back on the ice in two weeks playing with a face shield.

Steve Yzerman, Detroit Red Wings - The NHL's official injury report now states that Yzerman is expected back in 2-4 weeks, instead of indefinitely as was previously written. GM Ken Holland told CBC on Saturday that Yzerman hopes to engage in full practice after the all-star break after which he would suit up for a game. That would put his return around the middle of February by our calculations.

Radek Dvorak, New York Rangers - Dvorak skated on Saturday and reported no headaches following a concussion earlier this month. However, he will not play on Sunday against the Capitals.

Pavel Bure, New York Rangers - Bure will accompany the team on their upcoming road trip, but like teammate Brian Leetch, is not close to returning yet.

Simon Gagne, Philadelphia Flyers - Gagne, suffering from a right groin pull, did not play on Saturday against the Bruins. He may undergo an MRI in the coming days to determine the extent of the injury but told the Philadelphia Inquirer that "it doesn't feel too bad but it still hurts."

Mario Lemieux, Pittsburgh Penguins - Lemieux will miss at least one more game with a groin pull. He is tentatively scheduled to return to the ice for a skate on Monday or Tuesday, at which time it will be known whether he will return later in the week and/or whether he will miss the NHL All-Star game.

Alexander Mogilny, Toronto Maple Leafs - Mogilny missed another game on Saturday with back pain, a condition that seems to be getting chronic. He is listed as day-to-day.

Marc Savard, Atlanta Thrashers - Savard suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Rangers and is questionable for the Thrashers' next game on Tuesday.

P.J. Axelsson, Boston Bruins - Axelsson's back injury is not healing as quick as he would like and so he will undergo more tests in the coming weeks to determine if there is something more serious. There is a chance he could have a joint sprain as well as a bruised back.

Kristian Huselius, Florida Panthers - Huselius was a healthy scratch on Saturday and is on his way to finding a place in coach Mike Keenan's doghouse. The talented sophomore is obviously in a slump and should be reserved until he snaps out of it. There are also some rumors that Huselius may be on the trading block, though the Panthers organization has denied that they are actively trying to trade him.

Jeff Friesen, New Jersey Devils - Friesen was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's game against the Kings due to flu-like symptoms, reports the New Jersey Star-Ledger.
