Friday, January 14
Pasi Nurminen, Atlanta Thrashers - Nurminen will be the starter for Friday's game against the Lightning, reports the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.
Manny Fernandez, Minnesota Wild - Fernandez will be the starter for Friday's game against the Coyotes, reports the Minnesota Star-Tribune.
Zac Bierk, Phoenix Coyotes - Bierk will be the starter for Friday's game against the Wild, reports the Arizona Republic.
Johan Hedberg, Pittsburgh Penguins - Hedberg will be the starter for Friday's game against the Rangers, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Kevin Weekes, Washington Capitals - Weekes will be the starter for Friday's game against the Capitals.
Ron Tugnutt, Dallas Stars - Tugnutt will be the starter for Friday's game against the Mighty Ducks.
Roberto Luongo, Florida Panthers - Luongo is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Bruins.
Mike Dunham, New York Rangers - Dunham is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Penguins.
Olaf Kolzig, Washington Capitals - Kolzig is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Hurricanes.
Jocelyn Thibault, Chicago Blackhawks - Thibault is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Sharks.
Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Anaheim Mighty Ducks - Giguere is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Stars.
Jeff Hackett, Boston Bruins - Hackett is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Panthers.
Evgeni Nabokov, San Jose Sharks - Nabokov is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Blackhawks.
John Grahame, Tampa Bay Lightning - Grahame is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Thrashers, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Don't take this one as a given because the Lightning also play Saturday against the Bruins, which of course is Grahame's old team. It is certainly possible that he could play that game instead with Nikolai Khabibulin starting against the Thrashers.
Kevin Weekes, Carolina Hurricanes - With Arturs Irbe now down in the minors and presumably awaiting a trade, Weekes will get most of the starts for the remainder of the season. Backup Patrick DesRochers will see action only "as the schedule dictates", says coach Paul Maurice.
Marty Turco, Dallas Stars - The Stars announced on Thursday that Turco will miss at least four games with his ankle sprain. He attended practice in a walking boot and will not play in any of the games remaining on the current four game homestand. The earliest the Stars expect him back is February 23 in Chicago but coach Dave Tippett says he fully expects Turco to be recovered by the time the playoffs start.
Dwayne Roloson, Minnesota Wild - The Star-Tribune reports that Roloson suffered a minor low-ankle sprain in Wednesday's win over the Flyers, which may cause him to miss some time. The injury is not serious (since it's not a high ankle sprain) but the Wild have not decided whether to call someone up from the minor. It doesn't really matter for Friday's game because Manny Fernandez is scheduled to start, but it is possible that Roloson may not be able to play until next week. We'll update on this situation tomorrow.
player info
Jason Allison, Los Angeles Kings - The latest injury to surface regarding Allison is a neck strain, most likely diagnosed as whiplash. The center told the LA Times that the absolute earliest he would return is March 1 and that would be provided that everything went perfect. Reserve him for now but unfortunately, it's looking more and more like a lost season for the talented Allison.
Martin Straka, Pittsburgh Penguins - Straka was on the ice skating around on Wednesday but has ruled himself out for this weekend's games. He is still having trouble starting and stopping, but is hopeful that he will be able to play next week.
Jan Hrdina, Pittsburgh Penguins - Hrdina will miss the remaining games this week due to a hip injury, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Dean McAmmond, Colorado Avalanche - McAmmond was a healthy scratch for the second game in a row on Thursday. The winger started off hot after coming back from injury earlier this season, but has cooled off considerably in the past few weeks, scoring just two points in the past 13 games. It's no coincidence that his slump has coincided with Joe Sakic's injury.
Chris Chelios, Detroit Red Wings - Chelios practiced on Thursday and is eyeing a return to the lineup for Saturday's game against the Panthers, provided he does not suffer a setback reports the Detroit Free Press.
Steve Yzerman, Detroit Red Wings - Yzerman continues to skate and test out his injured knee in various contact drills but still has not revealed a date as to when he will return. The Ottawa Sun meanwhile spoke with Yzerman yesterday and reported that he's ready to come back within the next two weeks, possibly on February 22 against the Capitals.
Jiri Fischer, Detroit Red Wings - Fischer (knee) will begin skating on his own around the end of the month, but he is still several weeks away from returning. The young defenseman has little fantasy value even if he was healthy.
Pavel Bure, New York Rangers - Bure skated yet again on Thursday, but will not play in Friday's game against the Penguins.
Brian Leetch, New York Rangers - Like teammates Pavel Bure, Leetch skated again on Thursday but will reportedly not dress for Friday's contest against the Penguins.
