Ohio State(-5) over Washington (1*)
- - For starters, Washington has a good, sound defense that should keep Ohio State from gashing them at will under most any circumstances. I also acknowledge the pedigree of HC Petersen with a month to prepare, and the thrill of Washington earning their first trip since 2001 to The Granddaddy of Them All . . . On the other hand, HC Urban Meyer is going out by taking his first team to the Rose Bowl. Ohio State can certainly run hot and cold, and so many times this season they have been caught being totally unsound on defense, but IMO they are at least a notch better than their opponent, and IMO most everybody that has speed is running just a little faster when the sun is shining on the green grass of the Rose Bowl . . . A capper I always read and respect is always looking for value in the number and feels you will be caught short paying a premium for buying the storyline in this one (although that price seems to be melting with the late line move). While I think that's a solid approach in a conference tilt in Week #9 and such, I am foremost a situational capper, and although I'm seeing some odd melancholy among some Buckeyes that I wish was more like fervent resolve, the side I value in this one is how Ohio State is most likely to prepare and respond for their legendary coach.
