Spent 10 days on Lanai a few years back and it was easily the best vacation of my life. Laid back island with maybe 3,000 residents, 98% uninhabited, tons of stuff to do, fantastic resorts and food, two championship golf courses (one Norman, one Nicklaus), hunting if you're into that and NO CROWDS.

To me Oahu and Maui were my least favorite for those reasons. When I take the time to go all the way to Hawaii I try to find the places with the least # of people. Thats just me though, depends on what you want to do.

Speaking of beans.......wasn't Vincent Price eating beans in that cave?

I'm not sure about that, but I do remember Bobby and Cindy putting baked beans in a flashlight in order to feed the Indian kid in the Grand Canyon 3-parter. .....Can't remember what the plot of that one was though.

If you take one thing from this thread it would be don't DO A LUAU!!I was warned and did it anyways and what a mistake. Road to hana was great. @ 7 pools about an hour hike and you come to a 400ft WaterFall. All I can say is WOW!!I think top 10 highest in world. Do the Sunrise trip to the top and bike down. Kauai was great too but only for 4-5 days. Heli ride over the cliffs was great and play the Jack N course @ the Marriott. Have fun but beware of the LONG flight.

all depends on your preferences. if i was going to go over there and go island hopping, yea, i might book an overnighter on each island.

but... you're going to have to be lugging your suitcases around every 2 or 3 days that way.
if you can afford it, get a place on the main island you will be staying at for the whole trip.

then when you go on your island hopping and want to spend a night there (maui is the only one worth it in my opinion) you can just pack a light bag to bring.

I agree with the Maui vote. We did road to Hana and while I agree it is a long ride the hike at the end to the big waterfall thru a bamboo forest was worth the drive. One of our favorite things was hiking and there are some great hikes. A really good book that you can get at any bookstore or the library is "Maui Revealed", lots of good info in there. There are some amazing places to eat, my favorite was the Westin Maui which is right on the beach and 5 star quality! If you are there before March you can see the Humpback Whales which are really cool if you take a boat trip.

My opinion, best bar on Maui

Moose Mcgillycuddy's
844 Front St # 2, Lahaina

they serve an AWESOME breakfast there. THE perfect spot to go eat breakfast if you go out and do a good night of drinking there the night prior.

Are these hopper tickets anything like the discounted moonrail tickets Kosar offered you from Vegas?

I was in Maui with my wife and my 3 year old son back in December and loved it. Only island I've visited, so can't speak for the others. We skipped road to Hana as it takes 6-8 hours and a 3 year old won't last in a car that long. We rented a jeep for cruising around the island. Check out the whale watching tours, that was cool. Wailea area has the nicest places to stay, we stayed at the Fairmont. Nick's place at the Fairmont is awesome for seafood and atmosphere. Go there to eat a late dinner and watch the sunset. SPECTACULAR.
Aquarium was good, my boy loved that. Do the sunrise on the mountain thing (Halekala). Snorkle if your into that, lots of turtles around. Luau is a must, Marriott had a good one. Kannapoli has lots of great pubs and shopping. Sit on the beach, drink beers, get a tan, and watch all the titties walk by.:tongue
