A Holy Cross brother that has been a friend of our family for many years got me two tickets to the Oct 20th BYU-Notre Dame game.....my best friend will fly in from Maryland and meet me in Chicago.....we are going to rent a car and drive out to South bend.....I did this back in 2006 and saw the Purdue-ND game....last time we stayed in Valpariso because their were no hotels near South Bend...I forgot how far it was? Any ideas where we should stay closer to ND...also we have early flights out of Chicago on Sunday AM....maybe just stay in chicago and drive early sat am to south bend and come back late after the game....the game is a 3.30 game...just looking for some suggestions from some of you that live out there....how far is the chicago to south bend drive??? I remember getting off the highway and getting lost in a detour..we had to drive thru Gary,Ind....that was unreal..unless we hit a bad section, the South Bronx looked better...
Would appreciate any suggestions....think we might fly into Chicago on thur and spend the day there....last time we did this in 2006 we got to see the Cubs play the Rockies at Wrigly Field...that was great....
Yesterday school started in NY....it was the 1st day I didn't go to work in 38 years.....was kind of down since my family is down in Austin.....but got 15 text messages from teachers complaining about their new schedules, etc...two texts from 2 crazy high profile parents complaining about their kids and another from the athletic director about scheduling problems......the teachers all planned this to try to make me feel good and see I'm not missing this part of the retirement....it was nice and made me laugh...then last nite got another 10 calls from other teachers asking me how my 1st day of retirement was...that is the part I'll miss ..the people....everyone have a good week......." everyday is a snow day for me".....Bohawk and Hawkeye can attest to that.....
