I'm looking to treat myselft to a hand-held GPS device. I'm looking to spend $200 to $300. I really don't want to a pay a subscription fee and I will need the ability to download courses. I'd like yardage not only to the pin, but to on the course bunkers, water, etc.

Anyone have a suggestion on which unit to buy?

Bushnell laser. I would not trade it for anything. It runs on a 9 volt battery. I do not have the one with slope.

I like to drink when I golf and there are too many times that I can hold the damn thing straight enough to get a good reading. Laser's are out.

Unless you turn into Muhammad Ali when you drink, the laser should be fine. Poor taste, I know, but I drink and use the laser just fine.

Cornhunka I have the watch and really like it. Need a yardage look at my wrist. Have not been on a course that was not loaded on the watch. Has like 14k courses. Very simplistic.

I downloaded an app called Golfshot GPS that uses the GPS on my phone. I paid $30 for it and found that it works quite well. I've never played a course it didn't have. It gives you distances to dog legs, bunkers, front-middle-back of green and anything else you'd need.

Also, being on a smart phone, it also comes with some pretty cool features. Before you go to next hole you can put your score in, how many putts, if u hit the fairway or green in regulation. It will keep stats for you and everything.

Normally you get what you pay for, but I feel this was a steal for $30. The only downside I found.....you better make sure your phone is charged before you hit the links.

MC - will have to look into that. Makes almost too much sense, you have your phone with you, why have to bring another tool/device with you when you play? Will have to load that up and use it, once the weather warms up here obviously.

Tried out some golf apps on my phone and they were very cool. But the battery was always an issue usually before I even made the turn. Just like the simplicity of the watch. My yardage is always with me at a glance. Does not have yardage to bunkers and such. Just front middle, back yardage to greens.

Holy crap! You aren't one of those idiot old geezers I see holding some retarded thing up to your eye on the tee are you:mj07:

I don't even know what they do, I always assumed they were used by people that had too many friends and wanted to ensure that they didn't make any more pals on the golf course.

Do they even put those retarded crystals on the tops of flags anymore?

I-Phone, or probably any other phone that Zack Morris didn't own that has GPS.

One Timer, I just turned 40. I just point it at the flag to get a distance. I am also a 5 handicap, so it comes in handy. Not sure about the crystal thing?
