I can't put this book down I just got. I rarely ever read fiction, i mean very rarely. In fact the only fiction I ever read is James Ellroy and as a lot younger I used to read Stephen King (I do love all of Mark Bowden's non-fiction books - Doctor Dealer is especially amazing, as well as Killing Pablo).

But I picked up Cormac McCarthy's (writer of No Country for Old Men) Blood Meridian, and I find myself just wanting to read it more and more.

It's the story of a Tennessee teenage runaway that ends up with a band of paramilitary us-backed Indian/Mexican killers. Violent as all hell but an absolutely great read.

No but the movie is alledgedly being made to be released in probably 2010. I don't know how they'll make it because its violent as hell.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
?Outside lie dark turned fields with rags of snow and darker woods beyond that harbor yet a few last wolves.?

"Violent as all hell" is a rather mild description....

Why don't you like fiction? Gonna read more?

It's probably McCarthy's best novel ("No Country for Old Men" about the worst) so it will, as per the "John Simon" rule, make a poor movie--Simon noted that the literary techniques of nearly all fine novels render them inherently unfilmable. That is why great novels never make first rate films, and why some great films have been made from much mediocre literature....plus, the bloody and strange massive violence doesn't help either!

Man thats a great picture, it should be on the cover of the book. Yeah, I just find few fiction authors that suit my tastes. Mccarthy and Ellroy both are historical fiction writers, and more real with their dark views of the world. I'm a twisted SOB, I guess.

that sounds interesting. Is it more about disorders and the psychology of personality, or personality types, like those tests you take to see what kind of leader/follower/contributer/etc or interests you have you are?

I really want to read The Road, seems everyone loves it, and the movie is coming out in the next few months.

Just came across this line in Blood Meridian:

"There is no such joy in the tavern as upon the road thereto" said the Mennonite.

Suttree

Just finished this novel and have to say I didn't care fr it that much...

It centers on the segregation of Knoxville in the early 50s and centers on a man who struggles not only with inner demons but other influences as well...

Descriptions are wonderful, I'm just not big on the racist viewpoints portrayed during this novel's time frame.

Suttree 6/10
The Road 8.5/10
Blood Meridian 8/10

Child of God it is... I'll start it tomorrow... Picked up Stephen King's Lisey Story two days ago and it's been a very easy read... but a couple good tense moments... in usual King style. A vacation from MacCarthy but nonetheless good.

My favorite is still The Dark Tower Series by King... picked up the first edition in 82 at Easter... I was five... Have no idea why my mom bought me Stephen King at 5.. she just loved that I read so young...
