They just made another deal for this book to be adapted into a film as well. I doubt that it will ever see the silver screen but I heard that it is very interesting. If you don't mind, could you let those of us who haven't read it know what it details?

If you read it you would know that it would be a great movie.
About the bj counting teams from MIT. Phenominal book!! Read in 2 days. The only hting I can think of that would stop it from being big movie is the fact that most of the guys in the book are asian, and there aren't that many asian actors. The cult leader MICKEY should be sTEve Buschemi though.
Get the book!!

I read the book and it was great, could not put it down. I read online a few months ago that Kevin Spacy bought the rights to turn the book into a movie and he is also going to be in the movie.

Nick,
It is a first hand account of one of the 2 MIT Blackjack teams, as told to the author, by one of it's members. Starts with some background on a few of the players, to recruitment into the club and to his exit from it. Details the methods used, as well as many stories of their trips, winnings, etc. easy read, interesting.

Smash Buscemi would be great as Micky, would be a very good movie if done right. Gambling, Money, Gorgeous women, Sex, David Vs. goliath etc. lot of good stuff to work with, many flawed interesting characters.

RAZ,

Thanks for the info.

To all you other guys, when I said the book was unlikely to ever be made into a movie I wasn't commenting on the prospective quality of the film, more on the fact that dozens of deals are made for every one movie produced and a gambling story that is probably heavy on internal narration doesn't exactly have the greatest chance of being one of the chosen few to be made into a major picture.

I have not read it yet. I may get it in the future but right now my free time is pretty much concentrated totally on screenwriting. Definitely seems like a book worth reading, though.

Raz,

Thanks for the tip on this book. Hope my library has a copy; if not I'm sure I can find one for sale on e-bay. Have you read "The Odds:....." by Chad Millman? Its about gamblers in Las Vegas and their trials and tribulations. Others here at Jack's were talking about it so I picked it up. A good read, IMO.

Not about gambling, but I just finished a book called "Wild and Outside" by Stefan Fatsis. Its about the guys that started the Northern League a few years ago. The Northern League is an independent minor league (meaning no major league ties) based in the Upper Midwest and Thunder Bay and Winnipeg, Canada. If you are a baseball fan, you'd enjoy this book.

Anyone else have a favorite gambling or sports related book they'd like to recommend to the forum?

I read the book right after the first of the year and finished it in 2 days. It is one of those books that you can read quick and is hard to put down when you can relate to the subject. Although I have heard as others that it is going to be made into a movie I hope Hollywood does justice to this great book. As GamersInc stated Kevin Spacey's name has been thrown around although the character of Mickey would not fit him in what was portrayed in the book. In my mind I could see Ben Kingsley pulling this off perfectly. To those who have also read the book, what are your thoughts on the other main characters? And to those who haven't read it it's worth the money...

Quick sidenote: I actually heard about the book and decided to buy it after someone else on this forum had talked about it the end of last year. Whoever that was, thanks!:)

"bookie: my life in disorganized crime" very funny. it's about a kid that grows up to be a bookie. non-fiction but kind of plays like fiction.

I definitely need to check out "bringing down the house". I try to read "real" books, but they just seem to collect in a pile with a bookmark about 25 pages in. Gambling books, I can get through.

Like bigdad2, I picked up this book after reading about it on this site. I started reading it in the bookstore but couldn't put it down, bought it and read it in 1 sitting. Really good read IMO.

For those who read it: Scroll down i have a question about the book.

Who do you think turned them in? IMO i think it had to be Micky, he was still pissed about being spurned by the team. Why would the members of the other team turn in Kevin's when it would burn them just as much. No one else would have that kind of info on all of them except Micky. What did u guys thinK?

I don't think it was Micky. He was running more then one group, and wouldn't want the heat. I think they were turned in by the Casinos through the Private eye.

A great read, told more like a story then a biography.

JR Millers "How Las Vegas
Gamblers beat the ProFootball Pointspread"is a primer useful for many sports.A lot of very useful information, and an interesting read since the guy is a professional writer as well.Anyone who pratices starred or weighted betting(TITFD,5 star,10 star,25 star,50,100 unit plays,Goy week-month-day-hour-minute,)or any plays over 2% of their bankroll owes themselves a read of the money management chapter. It'll allow an otherwise winning Gambler to make more money.GL

Reddsfann, Ed, Shrimp.. Thanks for the tips on the books. Try to read 1 every 10 to 14 days, tastes are scattered. Like everything from True Crime , Fiction Patterson, Greg Isles, Sandford's "Prey Series", Breslin, ancient civilizations etc. Just finished "Killing Pablo'', the hunt and capture of Escobar.

TV does dis" course" come w/an appetizer?? LOL!!
;) I attempt to be well rounded, don't always get there, LOL!

On a different note, Just picked up a few dvd's,
"Usual Suspects", "Last of the Mohicans" and an old favorite, "Thief" w/Jimmy Caan. They finished installing all the hardware in media room of my spec houses, going to check it out
tomorrow while waiting for rain to stop.
