I just finished "bringing down the house".

Good read. Real quick. I lent it to my Dad and he hasn't read a book in probably 15 years (probably since "Beyond the 6th Game" came out) and he read it in three days.

I know what Nick's saying about lots of deals getting made but not getting made into movies, but this book just has too much good movie stuff. It isn't too heavy on "internal narration". It's very episodic and has a great arc.

It's got hints and mysteries and suggestions at the beginning, lots of concrete stories (good times, bad times, tense times), lots of "short term drama" with the pit bosses and back-rooms, and lots of "long term drama" like the progression and conflicts of the team.

It's got personal internal conflict. Person-to-person conflict. Team-to-casino conflict. Sex. violence. money. HIgh rollers, and a sort of rags to riches to rags element too.

I also don't think the cast would be asian. Yes, that was important to their success, but I don't think it has to be in the movie. The only reason we knew it made a difference was that the author said "an asian kid with a lot of money raises less suspicion".

SPOILER....

I don't know who turned them in. I'd agree with Saint -- most likely Micky for getting jilted. He seemed like a guy you don't "F" with. I bet if you talked to Fisher or Martinez, they might be pointing the finger at Kevin, though. Keep in mind we got this through Kevin's eyes.

Maybe this helped out his other group. Turn in one gang and it might take the heat off the other gang. Just speculating.

Wasn't there a movie produced about this book already?

Asian kids from MIT....MTV helped produce it.....it went to several "film festivals" and won a few awards.....it's called "by the end of day" or something like that....does anyone know?

there's some movie coming out that seems to focus on a bunch of asian kids that hit vegas and go wild. That might be what you're referring to, but I don't think its the same thing.

can anyone help me w/ this one?

can anyone help me w/ this one?

I read a review of a new book by a journalist that went to cover a poker tourney and ended up buying his way in and finishing 4th or 5th in Sports Illustrated a few weeks/months back....but I can't recall the authors name or the books name.
I thought it was "positively 5th street", but when I run that title at Amazon.com or other book searching sites, nothing comes up.

Anyone? Bueler? Bueler?

The book sounded like an interesting read but its driving me crazy trying to remember the title and/or the author's name.

HELP!!

JR Millers "How Las Vegas
Gamblers beat the ProFootball Pointspread"is a primer useful for many sports.A lot of very useful information, and an interesting read since the guy is a professional writer as well.Anyone who pratices starred or weighted betting(TITFD,5 star,10 star,25 star,50,100 unit plays,Goy week-month-day-hour-minute,)or any plays over 2% of their bankroll owes themselves a read of the money management chapter. It'll allow an otherwise winning Gambler to make more money.GL
is this an easy book to find ?

You can order Miller's book <a href="http://professionalgambler.com/prod.html"> thru his website</a>, or get it and many other fine gambling books <a href="http://www.gamblersbook.com/cgi/shop/cashcart.cgi?ACTION=ENTER&thispage=menu98.htm&ORDER_ID=!ORDERID!"> at the Gambler's Bookstore</a> online, over phone, or in Las Vegas.

"Positively Fifth Street" author has already <a href="http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2003/Jun-11-Wed-2003/news/21508023.html"> announced his first retraction</a> to some fictional bits in his book. the Mob-lawyer Mayor of LV is pleased.
