Northwestern(-12) over Minnesota (1*)
- - I got over the retarded debacle of the Ohio State vs. Northwestern game pretty easily because I could tuck the game away forever for future reference in any future discussions of "whether the right side can ever be the losing side" . . . After a rested Northwestern squad had a grand opportunity while going toe to toe with Ohio State off their Wisconsin win, the Wildcat's task was at least thrice as monumental to then hit the road against a rested Wisconsin team that was licking its own wounds after a tough loss to Ohio State, and the atrocious stats such as 44 yards of rushing and less than 50% pass completions were not a surprise, but also not indicative of the talent, depth and character which Northwestern has consistently produced. After today the road doesn't get much easier for the Cats, so the Gophers are visiting at just the right time, even if Minnesota benefits with their own week of rest after two rivalry beat downs at the hands of Iowa and Michigan . . There is a chasm between these teams, and if the situational factors were tweaked just a little more favorably, Northwestern at home laying less than two touchdownsit would be a Top Play, with potential for my Game of the Whatever, but as it is, Northwestern will carry my cash for 60 minutes today as they look to clearly separate themselves from the same old Gophers.
Ohio State(-18) over Iowa (1*)
- - Since I'm 6-1-1 with my plays this year involving the Hawkeyes (the only loser coming when I had them to cover against Missouri State), I figured I need to get involved again this week, even though it's probably my least confident Hawkeye wager so far this season . . . Iowa goes into this game with a real belief and purpose, so that does make them dangerous, and they have enough playmakers to get some things accomplished, but I see Ohio State hitting a stride at some point that Iowa can't match, and 37-16 sounds about right.
Notre Dame(-2') over USC (1*)
- - I think Chip Kelly is doing a solid coaching job of bringing along this year's initially overrated Altar Boys through a tough schedule and IMO they are obviously an improved and improving team, and will be fairly stout as November and January take hold, and a week to prepare for their intersectional rival will have been put to very good use . . . I don't think USC is particularly good, nor finds itself in a particularly good spot after a superior effort, nor under the leadership of a particularly special coach, and the Irish look like the right side to me.
Wyoming(-6) over Colorado State (1*)
- - I've been wrong in the Bronze Boot game before, but I really don't understand this line, so I might be doomed.
Baylor(-33) over Iowa State (1*)
- - Kansas State had a score to settle with Baylor last week and looked inspired on both sides of the ball at home before bowing by 10 points. Iowa State has really put it on the line in recent weeks, but I see this as a really bad spot for them against the best team they will see all season.
Washington(+3') over Arizona State (1*)
