Hard to believe a bright guy like yourself feels Obama has done well for us to this point.
I don't believe that at all, Cie.

I've said many times that Obama's sold out progressives and with the exception of healthcare reform, I see very little difference between the Bush and Obama administrations from a policy standpoint.

I've also said the healthcare reform bill we got is a huge disappointment and I blame Obama, Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans alike for that.

On the course!
Republicans and Democrats stand in the middle of a burning room screaming about who started the fire, instead of trying to put it out.

As your average, stoopid American.....I just don't get that shit?

It's horribly annoying, and most of the reason for this is that 90% of the public are married to a single belief set. We, the people, are just as responsible for this disaster as the leaders that we elected.

I believe that for most people, if you say you're cutting spending, it means you're spending less than you did before, in Washington it means were going to spend 7% more, instead of 8% more.

Here is text taken from the SnP downgrade letter:

Republicans and Democrats have only been able to agree to relatively modest savings on discretionary spending while delegating to the Select Committee decisions on more comprehensive measures. It appears that for now, new revenues have dropped down on the menu of policy options. In addition, the plan envisions only minor policy changes on Medicare and little change in other entitlements, the containment of which we and most other independent observers regard as key to long-term fiscal sustainability."

No new revenues and only minor changes to Medicare AND little change in other entitlements.

It is both the D and the R who are to blame.

This debt deal solved nothing.

I will reiterate: the Federal govt does not have a revenue problem. It has a spending problem and no one has the balls in Washington to admit to it.
The Tea Party tried and they have been scorned for it.

We have an archaic tax code that needs to be revised. End the loopholes and chicanery. Look to initiate a Flat tax.
Reduce all federal spending by 1% a year, every year for 10 years. None of this smoke and mirrors accounting bullshit.
Reduce defense spending.
Reduce entitlement spending - if you do not want to cut benefits, then the age limit must be raised.

US has been living on borrowed funds for far too long. It is time to tighten the belt and roll up the sleeves.

Good post. Both sides must compromise. There is no left or right doctrine that works. The numbers have to make sense.

Two coherent points in the same thread.

At the same time skul isn't willing to compromise. The bottom line is that if we are going to get it turned around we have to do both. The excuse that well if they get more revenue they will spend more doesn't hold water anymore. There has to be a plan to do both and NOW.

Duff, it is interesting that you illustrate your point with a picture of a dead man...from most of your comments, that was my impressionanyway.

For those of you who saw Michael Moore's movie on Columbine, there was one point made, by Marilyn Manson, that reflects why we are in the situation we are in today.

That point...the roles of government and the media have merged with one common purpose...to enusre the public is as scared as possible.

The media perpetrates this (what to eat, what not to do, evils lurking that will harm your children, the latest study, global warming, etc, etc) so they can sell you stuff.

The government wants the public to be afraid so they will rely on the government rather than on themselves.

When The Obama talks of the waiting disaster from the debt issue, do you think companies want to hire, people want to spend, people start businesses or take risks. Of course not and, in addition, they take their money out of the stock market.

People aren't spending money, including their tax cuts, because they are scared.

The funny thing is, I think this is the first time in my lifetime when I look at our leadership and I think we have every right, and duty, to be very scared.

I asked you a simple question, azzbob, and you babble on about your, Michael Moore's and Marilyn Manson's amatuer economic theories.

Here, I'll give you another chance -

Expalin something to me azzbob. How does spending, at the same time taxes are lower, cause a recession? I just can't figure how that works.

Yes I damn well do know. Answer the question.
What do you do for work?

He hides on the internet/cyber troll

Only thing we know for sure is he in his 50's -never married--lives with his mother in Portland-- is for higher taxes/more spending (entiltements) --is master of spell check--but his own vocab is confined to basically 4 letter words.

His modus operandi is always the same--his rebuttle will be 4 letter rant--but unable to verify any item above is not correct.

Best asset is he's continually reaffirms values of liberal poster child. :)
