Where it is real F ing COLD
Mason had worn out his welcome because he set the expectations too high..

I think Maturi the athletic director should be fired as well. He hired Brewster, a guy who had no head coaching experience whatsoever. Mason must be laughing his ass off.. What a joke the university has become. They can't even win in hockey anymore.:scared

Bleeding, I don't want to come across as a jerk, but I question your "Mason wore out his welcome" comment. I will admit that I don't follow the Gopher program that close, but I am a fan of college football and to be quite honest, Mason was your (I am assuming you are a fan) best coach in 50+ years. 7 bowl games in 10 years. It's not like Minnesota has been relevant to college football in a long time. They haven't won a Big Ten title in over 40 years and their last National Championship was 50 years ago (8-2 and lost the Rose Bowl). Hell, Mason led them to their first 10 win season since 1905 when the Gophers went 10-3 in 2003. Plus he is the only Minnesota coach in 50 years with an above .500 winning percentage.

I see Mason's situation mirrors that of Indiana's Bill Mallory. Mallory took over a horrible program and in a few short years was winning 7-8 games a year and going to multiple bowl games. After falling back a bit he was shown the door. It took the Hoosiers several coaches and 17 years to return to a bowl game. They are always going to be a middle of the road, average Big Ten team. They will pull off the occasional upset but that's it. I've always said if Purdue and Northwestern can go to the Rose Bowl, then so can IU. I guess I can keep hoping. (I root for IU also because they are a state school, my dad was a big Bob Knight fan and one of my good friends from high school is IU's Offensive Co-ordinator).

Sometimes you don't realize what you have until it's gone. I just don't think that Minnesota would be in the state it is in today if they had kept Mason as coach.
