Sad day in Hockey Town with Gordie Howe passing. When you talk hockey here he is & always will be in a category all by himself. I'm old enough to had the privilege of watching him play growing up at the old Olympia & also shaking his hand. When I was in my early 20's I sold shoes for a pretty exclusive men's store in Detroit & my boss knew I was a hockey nut. I was in the back putting stock away & my boss came back & said you have to wait on this guy in the store. I remember going through the swinging doors from the back room out to the floor. I immediately spotted Gordie & did an abrupt retreat back through the doors, I told my boss I'm too nervous to wait on him, he pushed me back out and I sold him a pair of casual shoes because he was heading down to FL. What a memory ! RIP Mr. Hockey

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
One of the greatest athletes ever.

Gordie Howe used to like taking batting practice with the Tigers...Gordie Howe played semi-pro baseball, lastly for the Saskatoon 55's, in the Northern Saskatchewan Baseball League, but the Red Wings made him give it up after the 1951 season...Al Kaline said Howe, a natural all-around athlete, would have been a fine major league baseball player with regular playing time.

RIP :sadwave:

I was unaware he was that good of a baseball player.

2nd or 3rd best hockey player of all time yes, but did not know that fact about him.

I also find it amusing that the "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" was named after him, but in actuality he barely achieved it himself.

This sucks. "Mr. Hockey" was not only one of the best ever but a true ambassador of the game.

RIP Mr. Howe, you will be missed and unable to be replaced.

One of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet, and one of dirtiest on the ice. Perhaps the dirtiest player ever to play in the NHL.

His own son (member of Hockey Hall of Fame) said he was the dirtiest player to ever to step foot on the ice:142smilie

Don't remember what year but I watched Gordie destroy Bobby Baun on the boards & glass at Olympia.
