I ate shellfish the other day hmmm...didn't know that, it has to be gout, I woke up and my ankle and foot was swollen the other day and I didn't do anything to it, gonna wait til Monday and to to my gp for some meds hopefully, I haven't taken any Advil yet today but about too...luckily there is football to keep me entertained and I am ordering Chinese food for delivery no shellfish, going to make lemons into lemonade today...

Cancel that order and get a salad instead, Brutus.

have had it in my big toe twice in the last year.

It really can put you down. I still went to work though I was limping along.

lasted about 3 days each time.

I went on the internet and one big thing is white apple vinegar . I drank a glass down diluted. It tastes pretty bad.

but I have been drinking a glass every month and have not had any return.

If your ankle is swelled and your big toe hurts then it is gout. But I dont think I would wait to get to a doctor or ER .

that gout is a bitch

the water thing is a old wives tale
you cant flush it out once it has settled in there.

hedge - even if the gout is gone now i promise you it will come back - if it is gone go to your dr and get a rx for allopurinol, as i have not had a serious attack since i started taking it

had my 1st attack and had no idea what it was and on wifey's advice took some aspirin, BIG MISTAKE! - aspirin thinned the blood and next thing I knew I was in the ER with a morphine drip - decided that i was too young to start taking a new med every day for the rest of my life and that lasted until my next attack, which was brought on by eating asparagus

listen to the people in this thread who have told you to get on the allopurinol while the gout is out of your system and then to get indomethycin (anti-inflammatory) in case of attack as well as colchecine which helps you expel the uric acid

i have been on allopurinol for about 5-6 years now and have not had another attack despite drinking wine and beer and eating almost anything i want - i do however stay away from the things that i know have caused issues in the past, especially asparagus

Get your doctor to give you a prescription for colchicine and allopurinol. Once your attack is gone take the allopurinol daily. If you feel an attack coming on take one colchicine every hour for 2-3 hours and it should stop the attack. Never start the daily pill while having an attack. It will more than double the pain. Tart cherry juice, turmeric , ginger, organic apple cider vinegar and switching beer for bourbon all helped me. I now have 1-2 attacks a year. Capzasin cream has also helped ease the pain of an attack. Read up on the main foods that are known to cause an attack and make an effort to stay away from those foods. Good luck.

I haven't had a gout attack in 9-10 years, I take allopurinol daily. Also ordered some cherry concentrate from amazon and take it daily too.

Worst pain in my life physically. Try eating fresh cherries it helps too. Good Luck gagnon, love your avatar
