SEA GETS RAY ALLEN AND KEVIN OLLIE , PRYZBILLA

MILK GETS PAYTON AND DESMOND MASON.

THINK SEA GETS BEST OF DEAL.........RAY ALLEN ONE OF THE MOST PURE SHOOTERS IN GAME FOR AN OLDER PAYTON AND GREAT ATHLETE IN MASON BUT NOT REALLY A REAL PROVEN PLAYER!

JUST MY TAKE.

WIZZ.

P.S. GUESS CASSELL WILL MOVE TO SHOOTING GUARD OR MIGHT BE MOVING SOON HIMSELF.

The only reason it's some what of a good move for the Sonics is cause they were probably going to lose Payton this summer.

I'm not sure if Cassell and Payton can co-exist in the starting lie up but Mason is the "X" factor.

Who is Seattle's starting point guard now?

Kevin Ollie?

This deal would have been GREAT for Milwaukee had they shipped away Cassell for something in return, but as it stands these two might be butting heads.

I think this trade doesn't really improve either team that much, but I guess only time will tell.

what are you guys smokin? the bucks definitely get the better end of the deal...allen is a good shooter/scorer when he wants to be...but payton by far is still the better defender and scorer in the deal...and still has a solid 2-3 years left in the tank...the mason/ollie comparisons don't even add up...desmond not only brings instant youth and energy to the mix...he will be an all-star in the next couple of years...ollie has no chance of reaching that level...I do love ollie's character and intensity...but that's about it...milwaukee is instantly thrown in the eastern conference hunt with this trade while seattle will slump even farther down the pacific division and not even make the playoffs this year...the best thing the sonics get out of the whole deal may be the draft picks... ;)

Roger - I would have to agree. Being that I live 25 min from Milwaukee I think this is a GREAT trade. Ray is not a good defender and his scoring will be matched by Mike Redd. Demond Mason is a great pick up. I do wish they would have gotten rid of Sam I Am.

I've been hearing that the Bucks and Knicks have a deal in place that would send Cassell to the Knicks for Sprewell......They are going to ask the NBA for an extension on the trade deadline by 48 hours sometime today.

Roger - I agree that the Bucks got the better end of the deal, but why do you need Cassell AND Payton? Cassell is still good, but this will cause friction between the two of them.

Wolf SJD - I heard the same thing before. I heard Cassell going to the Knicks with another player for Sprewell and possibly Charlie Ward.

My Take

My Take

The Bucks got the far better of this trade. Payton although 34, is still one of the top 5 points in the league. A future hall of famer who can D up and score in the clutch. Mason is good defender, who can jump out the gym. This guy has a real bright future in this league.

Ray "Pretty Boy" Allen plays when he wants too and has a hard time defending his own shadow. Why is this guy on the Olympic Team????? Ollie is solid but only has so much natural ability.

If what I read above is true and the Bukcs ship Sam I Am to the Knicks for Spree. The Bucks could win the east...I mean the east is wide open, and these roster moves would certainly put Karl's bunch at the top of the pack.

Seattle could care less they were not going to make the playoffs anyway, now they can try and build around pretty boy and look towards future seasons.

I don't know what Seattle was thinking! If you've watched Seattle play this year, then you know the Sonics are strictly a perimeter shooting team. They have a plethora of good shooters (Barry, Drobnjak, Lewis, Radmanovic), but they lack inside scoring. So what do they do? They go out and get another good shooter (Allen). Seattle still hasn't addressed its biggest weakness. The Sonics are going nowhere fast, and Milwaukee suddenly looks like a formidable contender in the East.

Good trade for both teams. Seattle didn't get a bad deal in the slightest.

Payton and Mason give Milwaukee tons of perimeter options to mix and match with Cassell, Thomas, Kukoc, and Redd. Still have major question marks at the 4/5 spots though.

Payton was leaving Seattle after this season. Despite his playing ability, he's been a cancer in the organization for years. They had their run with Kemp and Co. years back, but since then they haven't moved forward having Payton leading the show. He is still a good defender, but this isn't the Payton of 5 or 6 years ago who was an absolute demon on defense. And the question is will Payton sign with the Bucks?

Mason is a good young player who hopefully they can sign to a long term deal. I don't think he is going to become an instant All-Star in a few years...I think he is a bit overrated as far as where many people see him down the road. A good pickup though in the deal.

Ray Allen in one of the top five shooting guards in the league. Bit of an off year so far this season, but he's probably the best pure shooter in the game. No, defense isn't his strength and something he still needs to improve on. He can score and score efficiently though...great shooting percentages from the field, 3pt line, and FT line. Rebounding and passing are both above average for his position as well. Much younger than Payton and isn't a problem in the locker room. Easily forgotten is in the biggest games of his career he was the best player on the floor in the Eastern Conference playoffs in 2000. Had a superb postseason and was the main reason Milwaukee almost made it to the finals. Adding him and Campbell make them a better team right now, even if Barry plays the point, and if Campbell is dumped after the season, it's still a good deal for Seattle....I'll gladly take Ray Allen instead of having Payton walk and getting nothing in return, even if they had to get rid of Mason in the process.

I agree hoops. I basically look at it as Allen for Mason w/Payton for the rest of the year as a bonus. I really don't see Payton signing w/Milwaukee in the offseason. We'll see though.

Wondered what Hoops and everyone's thoughts on the Magic/Grizz trade of Miller/Humphrey for Gooden/Girichek. On the surface, it appears the Magic made out big, but I have a feeling people may see the silver lining that I don't.

I think the Magic basically thought that they are giving up a shooter (Miller) to get a shooter (Giricek) and in addition to that they get a solid inside presence with tons of upside (Drew Gooden). So on the surface you can say Orlando get the best of it. On the other hand Orlando also packaged 2 draft picks, a first rounder and a second rounder and also Ryan Humphrey. Now the question is will Humphrey develop into anything and who will the Grizz get with the 2 draft picks. I don't know alot about Humphrey, but so far he has done nothing.

I like Giricek and Gooden who could both be potential starters next year for this team so I like what Orlando got.

I like the trade for Orlando. Hubie was down on Gooden...I think he is going to be a very good player though. Give him 30+ minutes per night and he is going to be a 17pt, 10reb, type of player most of his career. Right now he is the best lowpost player the Magic have and was a big upgrade in that area.

Giricek is a good shooter that fits well into the Magic's offensive system. I think Miller is the better all-around scorer and has more upside, but getting Giricek along with Gooden was a great move by Orlando.

Draft picks are always crap-shoots...we'll find out how those play out. Humphrey has no position. Too small to play the 4, doesn't have any type of offensive game at the 3 spot...not that he was expected to be an impact player, but he looks like a complete bust.

LIKE HOOPS SAID..........PAYTON WAS GOIN TO BE A FREE AGENT NEXT YR.............EITHER KEEP HIM AND LET HIM GO NEXT YR AND GET NOTHING OR GET A GREAT SHOOTER LIKE RAY ALLEN ONE OF THE BEST PURE SHOOTERS IN BBALL.........WHICH MAKES MORE SENSE.

ALSO MILK WILL HAVE TO SIGN PAYTON NEXT YR........HE WILL BE A FREE AGENT.........WHO SAYS HE WILL EVEN SIGN BACK WITH THEM OR NOT.........IF SO, HOW MUCH WILL IT COST THEM.........ALSO THE AGE FACTOR, ALSO........HE CAN BE A CANCER AT TIMES, HARD TO CONTROL............

THEY KNOW HAVE 2 CANCERS ON TEAM..........CASSELL AND PAYTON...........MASON CAN TURN INTO A NICE PLAYER BUT......NOTHING SPECTACTULAR..........RAY ALLEN IS IN HIS PRIME!

SEVERAL WAYS TO LOOK AT IT, BUT I AGREE WITH HOOPS IN MOST OF HIS COMMENTS.

WIZZ.

Thanks guys. I agree on the Orlando trade as well. I think the draft picks are a 1st and 2nd rounder, although I think the 1st rounder is the Sac Kings pick so it is basically two 2nd rounders. That's what made me think Orl got the better end. Thanks again guys.

If early returns are a sign of anything than orlando is doing just fine:

Name Min FG 3Pt FT Off Reb Ast TO Stl Blk PF Pts
G. Giricek 31 5-9 0-2 5-5 0 1 3 1 2 0 3 15
D. Gooden 31 9-14 0-1 0-2 4 11 1 2 1 1 2 18

That's after three quarters
