Haven't had much time to watch the news recently, so I'll have to dig and read all the details about it. But, I'm going to really go out on a limb here and say I will be opposite whatever side you are on.
just a hunch

I'm with you Marine--not a clue what he's talking about.

Only thing he put up was--

Gulf War Vets win Judgment

Are you talking about the Gulf War Syndrome Spongie-

Gulf War Syndrome' is the phrase coined by the media to describe the unattributable illnesses showing in veterans of the Persian Gulf War

Sorry i thought maybe you guys would search for it yourself since cut and pasting is forbidden if you don't agree with the Bush policies. Now that i backed up this legislation that has now pass thru congress and headed to the senate lets see who votes against it. Surely as a military man I would think you are disappointed that these troops are getting shit on but then again probably not.

House Bill will allow Gulf War Vets to sue Iraq over torture

House gives go-ahead to sue Iraq over torture
By JIM ABRAMS ? 1 hour ago

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Former POWs and civilians who were tortured or held hostage during the 1991 Gulf War could pursue lawsuits against Iraq under legislation the House has approved.

The White House, saying the bill would threaten economic and political progress in Iraq, threatened to veto the measure if it reaches the president's desk. It still has to clear the Senate.

The legislation, passed by voice vote late Monday, could affect some 17 prisoners of war ? all but one pilots of aircraft downed over Iraq or Kuwait ? and more than 200 American civilians working in Iraq and Kuwait and held as "human shields" after then-President Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.

The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Bruce Braley, D-Iowa, would take away the president's authority to exempt Iraq from lawsuits brought by Americans tortured by state sponsors of terrorism. The president could still grant immunity if he certifies that Iraq has adequately settled, or is making good-faith efforts to settle, claims against it from pending court cases.

Bush in December 2007 vetoed a defense policy bill because it contained a similar provision. He later signed the bill after reaching an agreement with Congress granting him waiver authority, which he exercised in January 2008.

ok spongey,

I went and found a few articles about it.

When you search for "Gulf war vets wins judgement" it brings up 2004/5 issues. - so thanks so much for your clear instructions on where to find the article.

Now, seeing what you were really talking about...
As expected, I am on the other side of your play.

Suprisingly, I read not just that article that you posted, but I found and read articles detailing the reasons why before forming an opinion on it. because just reading what you posted... I was supporting your side.

Reading the whole thing... I side of the projected, future veto of it.

For anyone interested:
Current law - you can't sue countries that torture you based on sovereign immunity.
Currently - congress is trying to pass laws that make that non-applicable and voiding it out.
Bush - does not approve of voiding that current law.

Now, do you think its GW Bush himself who is saying he doesn't like this rule - you know.. all cowboy style?
I'm willing to bet there's people a lot smarter than all of us combing over it and looking at the ramifications of it and what it could cause if passed - Bush is just the guy that has to tell that to congress.
