just curious........are there any madjackers out there that know the deal with this whole "hacking thing" that has been happening lately?

The latest book to get hit is CRIS.........as we know CRIS is one of the big boys in the industry........but for the past 3 days they have been unable to get their site up because of the extorsion.

Sure, they could just pay the hackers off and the problem would go away. But clearly as of yet they have not (or maybe they didn't pay enough!) so my question is this:

Does CRIS (or any company for that matter) have a chance? Or were they unprepared? Can they fight it? If so....how?

Curious if any madjackers know the deal?

so was CRIS a lady on the subway wearing a diamond bracelet and rolex watch................ya know just waiting to get grabbed.

or

was there nothing they could do?

and finally...........does anybody know if it's the same group targetting these books?

If a site only has a small number of dedicated IP adresses assigned to them, and they have no firewall in place or no security procedures at all, it would be relatively easy to launch a DOS attack on them. There are plenty of sites you can download real simple programs from to launch this type of crap, the problem being that if they are prepared they can usually easy trace it back to your IP. Unfortunately I think a lot of these offshores are completely underfunded in the IT security department
