The 'releasing' of a dog's anal glands is a very normal & common thing.

Some dogs will never have to have them released some do as often as every 6 months. Just depends on the dog.

Some dogs glands fill so quickly, its just easier to have them removed surgically, but that really isnt all that common or necessary.

I dont know what this alcohol spray is about, normally they will either release on there own & man does it stink...alot like fish....or the vet or even yourself can release them...its gross, but quite simply & all it takes is some latex gloves, a some paper towels...only a small amount of grayish fluid comes out.

A sign that you need to have your dog's glands released is constant licking of the ass area or the dragging the ass on the carpet are tell-tale signs.

No I am not into dog asses or something like Marine, but I was a vet tech in another life.....

3 seconds--- u are absolutely right smelled just like fish.

The alcohol spray was to spray on his butt to dry out the sore he caused on himself, completely red around the u know what. The vet said the quicker it dries up the quicker it will heal of course the alcohol burns being sprayed right there. They also gave him a steriod shot to relieve the pain.

Thank god he smells much better today, smelled like a farm animal last nite.

My dog is 200 percent better today, i know that steroid shot did him wonders, he is even walking around w/his tail waving in the air today, hasn't done that in 2 days.

The steroid will do wonders, but I wouldnt get it too often as it can lead to renal & liver troubles.

I would say forget that alcohol spray, as if the glands have been empty he will no longer 'work' the area, sans normal cleaning. No need to burn his arsehole out.

It is a very simple procedure if you have the stomach for that kinda thing...

Just locate the glands, you will feel them trust me, gently push upwards motion & then outwards...they will release. Some liquid that stinks to all hell, like rotten fish, will squirt or drip out, but after cleaning up the greyish liquid & giving the dog a quick wipe down then its all over....for most dogs a year or 2.

Doesnt cost ya a dime.

being that this is an asshole thread,i had an interesting experience at a walmart in town today...

i was walking in the door and a woman was exiting at the same time, screaming "hey! mr. f*ck-head! get over here!".....it turns out that "mr. f*ck-head" was her little boy who was playing in the shopping carts.....

i guess it`s possible that the family name was "f*ckhead".....:shrug:
