Nasty untreated cancer...
wanted to add this comment. This guy really touched me. He walked 3 days to get where we were at the mission. He was very thin; even moreso than a usual Haitian. This place on his neck was as hard as a rock. It was obvious cancer, and it originated in his mouth. Something that would be caught most of the time in the USA at a relatively early stage, probably on a dental checkup. This fellow had about 1-3 months to live best guess. We told him what was going on, there was nothing really to do to help him, and that this would end his life in pretty short order, and here's what he said.
"Life or death, I will be with my father..." Can you imagine your response after being told you had untreated cancer and to get your affairs in order??? WOW, what a testimony that was. Christian, agnostic, atheist, or whatever you are, those words were powerful. Trips to Haiti are full of experiences like this that just absolutely grab you and shake you and slap you in the face. That's why I go.
