this guy is supposed to be a defensive "genius" but his teams have given up over 90 points to lower ranked teams in the their last 2 bowl games.

has the oklahoma team tuned out to his message ?

does anybody have a theory what happened ?

No theory, but he acted like a first-timer last night. Down 20-15 mid-third, he coached like there were 45 seconds left in the game. Kick the XP, boom the kickoff out of the endzone, act like you've been there before. Instead he tries for two and then tries an onside, both of which fail, and flip the momentum right back to WV.

Bob's brother, Mike was the defensive mind behind OU's glory years. Since his departure for Arizona after the '03 season, their defense has been on a steady decline.

i do agree with you about the 2 point try...thought it was too early to try it.....but disagree about the onside kick.i think he had no confidence in his defense holding the w. virginia offense down so he thought if he could pull it off & then score, he would then take the lead & then be willing to trade scores with wvu.however i don't think he should have tried the onside kick right after trying the 2 pt. conversion because i think that may have alerted the wvu coaching staff that stoops may try other stuff.i think the better thing to do was to kick the x-tra pt. & then try for the onside kick.btw i once saw jeff fisher try & succeed on b2b onside kicks. it succeeded because it was a surprise.

that's true judge but it's not like arizona's defense is championship quality either....i wonder if it's the combo of the two brothers working together.

I have the answer! The better team won! WV would have been playing for championship had their QB not been injured in final game against Pitt inwhich they lost. Oak showed weakness often this year & WV exploited it big tig time.

West Virginia was the better team last night, but if you remember, OU could have just as easily been in the national championship game. They also lost their quarterback first play against Texas Tech and it cost them.

I've always thought that some coaches don't do well once they start getting the elite players. Stoops won when he had good but not great players that he could coach up. I think those type of guys are more open to his coaching. The elite players are a different story, a good number of them already "no it all". Not everyone's demeanor works for them, Carroll however is one whoes does.

WV was clearly the better team, but Stoops changed the scoring tempo with the bizarre decision to onside kick with 21 minutes left in the game and down only 5 points.WV hadn't scored in the second half at that point and he gives them field position at the 38 going in.I would have liked to have seen them start that drive on their own side of the field, the defense might not have sagged so soon. After WV got that cheap TD,the tempo of the game changed to an "over" pace mighty quickly. It was like he was embarressed about his failed conversion attempt, and felt like he had to do something quickly to show everyone how smart he really was/is.Stoopnagle is more like it for my money.
