unfortunately, not so,gents.....the moratorium was removed by bush in 2008....obama didn`t remove anything...he reinstated a new moratorium....

it`s the old misdirection play...and of course, the media is nowhere to be found...

?In 2008, when Congress and then-President Bush retired the decades-old moratorium on the safe and environmentally sound practice of producing energy miles off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, the American people, and our economy, scored a huge victory. Unfortunately, what President Obama outlined today puts part of that moratorium back in place. Kicking the energy can further down the road is not a change in policy.

?Canada drills for oil in the North Atlantic. Cuba, Brazil, and Venezuela produce energy in the water to our South. The Russians do the same to our West. Yet, America, the most technologically advanced nation in the world, with the most stringent environmental policies on the books, remains the only nation that imposes burdensome regulations and endless streams of red tape on domestic production. Americans want to stop embargoing our own oil. The president?s plan expands that existing embargo, and Americans will pay the price.

What the President announced today at-a-glance:

Cancelled five lease sales off the Alaska coast that were planned over the next 2 years. One of the areas is estimated to hold up to 77 billion barrels of oil, or more than 3 times US reserves.

A study of the southern Atlantic OCS, with the findings due back next year?.no leasing

Delaying a planned lease sale off Virginia until at least 2012

Watch CBS News Videos OnlinePresident Obama hit the basketball court and talked politics with CBS "Early Show" co-anchor Harry Smith this morning.

Smith asked Mr. Obama, who is left-handed, if he can ever go to his right.

"I can go to my right, but I prefer my left," the president says.

He doesn't always sink his famous jump shot.

"You know, I've got a few other things on my mind," said Mr. Obama, who then makes the jump shot. "Its like health care, I always come from behind - I finish strong." Watch the video at left.

Watch for more of Smith's interview with Mr. Obama tonight on the "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric" and Friday morning on "The Early Show."

Smith also asked the president if he is aware of the extreme terms some use to describe him, such as "socialist" or "Nazi."

"Well, I think that when you listen to Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck, it's pretty apparent, and it's troublesome, but keep in mind that there have been periods in American history where this kind of vitriol comes out," Mr. Obama said. "It happens often when you've got an economy that is making people more anxious, and people are feeling like there is a lot of change that needs to take place. But that's not the vast majority of Americans. I think the vast majority of Americans know that we're trying hard, that I want what's best for the country." (video at left)

"I didn't buy all the hype, right after inauguration, where everybody was only saying nice things about me," he added. "And I don't get too worried when things aren't going as well because I know that over time these things turn."
:00hour
The president said both Democrats and Republicans have a responsibility to tone down the rhetoric, but that much of it has to do with the current media environment in which extreme comments are echoed in the blogosphere.

Obama to Boehner: Where?s the Armageddon?
By DAVID M. HERSZENHORN

At a rally in Maine, President Obama pushed back a bit on Republican assertions that the new health care legislation would herald the end-of-days.

Mr. Obama, speaking to a boisterous crowd in Portland, noted that the House Republican leader, Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, was among those to predict catastrophic results.

?John Boehner called the passage of this bill Armageddon,? Mr. Obama said, struggling to finish his sentence over boos at the mention of Mr. Boehner?s name.

?You had hedgehog and gardenweasel who said this is the end of freedom as we know it,? he continued. ?So after I signed the bill, I looked around.? :SIB

The laughter began to build.

?I looked up at the sky to see if asteroids were coming,? Mr. Obama said. More laughter.

?I looked at the ground to see if cracks had opened up in the earth,? he continued, echoing remarks he made at a rally in Iowa last week. ?You know what, it turned out it was a pretty nice day. Birds were still chirping. Folks were strolling down the street. Nobody had lost their doctor. Nobody had pulled the plug on Granny. Nobody was being dragged away to be forced into some government-run health care plan.?

Then, the comedian-in-chief had a few choice remarks for commentators in the media.

?You have to love some of the pundits in Washington,? he said. ?Every single day since I signed the reform law, there?s been another poll or headline that said, ?Nation still divided on health care reform. Polls haven?t changed yet.? Well, yeah. It just happened last week. It?s only been a week.

Can you imagine if some of these reporters were working on a farm? You planted some seeds, and they came out the next day, and they looked, and nothing?s happened! There?s no crop! We?re going to starve! Oh, no! It?s a disaster!? :142smilie

Mr. Obama urged patience. ?It?s been a week, folks,? he said. ?So before we find out if people like health care reform, we should wait to see what happens when we actually put it into place. Just a thought.?

...................................................................

Republicans reach across the aisle.

like what:shrug:

I think hes trying to say you don't comprehend the magnitude of health insurance cost.Everyone, don't matter if your rich, poor or middle class(if there is such a thing)are one major accident from being broke by the insurance companies.

Even family members can liquidate your assets with a illness. This new bill won't address those major issues but its a start.

Will have to look more into this, especially nose around that group and that website. I see the credentials of the group spokesman and his appearances which consist of essentially four networks, three of them include Fox News, Fox Business News, and the Christian Broadcast Network.

I note most of the headlines are critical of Obama and any democratic-leaning or non-fossil fuel subjects, which leads me to believe this "report" is probably as self serving as it true - if it is true at all.

Not writing it off yet, just trying to get some perspective on why this message is being referenced and why it is constructed the way it is.
