Did you not even watch the Bill Moyers piece?

Don't worry Mags, I've got plenty of other sources revealing how Ms. Fowler authored the Bill to specifically benefit Big Insurance and Big Pharma. ;)

He obviously didn't. Just like he read the whole bill. Sure.

Right. He read all 2464 pages but it never occured to him to wonder who actually wrote the thing.

At the 46 minute mark in this clip, Max Baucus singles out Liz Fowler for all her hard work...
in writing a bill that will make Insurance Companies richer, Drug Companies richer and most
importantly, Max Baucus richer...

Former WellPoint VP Liz Fowler to Implement Health Care Oversight

Wednesday July 14, 2010 6:14 pm

Remember Liz Fowler? The former WellPoint VP whom William Ockham noted was the literal author of the health care reform bill?

I?m sure you?ll be thrilled to learn that WellPoint?s former VP will be in charge of consumer issues and oversight as our country implements the WellPoint/Liz Fowler health insurance bill.

Liz Fowler, a key staffer for U.S. Sen. Max Baucus who helped draft the federal health reform bill enacted in March, is joining the Obama administration to help implement the new law. Fowler, chief health counsel for the Senate Finance Committee, which Baucus chairs, will become deputy director of the Office of Consumer Information and Oversight at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

?Liz Fowler is an extremely knowledgeable and dedicated adviser, and while I?m very proud of her new position, she will certainly be missed at the committee,? Baucus said in a statement Tuesday.

Obama and fellow Democrats have been promoting what they say are positive aspects of the reform bill, while the Health and Human Services Department is drafting many rules to implement to complex measure.

So Liz Fowler, WellPoint?s gal, will be writing the rules implementing the law (the rules that will determine whether this is a worthless bill or a decent one), particularly those designed to protect (cough) consumers and oversee companies like?WellPoint.

This is the kind of ?oversight? that resulted in the BP disaster.

And remember Obama?s lobbyist restrictions? The ones that prevent someone from working in the Executive Branch on an issue that they?ve lobbied Congress on for two years? Fowler was not a registered lobbyist; rather, she was the VP of Public Policy and External Affairs. But in any case, it appears that Fowler returned to MaxTax Baucus? staff on March 4, 2008, so nothing prevents the former VP of WellPoint from writing the ?consumer and oversight? rules that are the only thing protecting Americans from policies ? like WellPoint?s ? that screw consumers.

It?s a nice trick: send your VP to write a law mandating that the middle class buy shitty products like yours, then watch that VP move into the executive branch to ?oversee? the implementation of the law. What could go wrong?!?!

You're gonna look pretty silly if most of your bold predictions about the mid-terms bite you in the ass on Nov. 2nd.

Look for a thread titled "Man Bites Dog" on Nov. 3rd... :142smilie
I'll back my convictions

Would be nice if we could make some friendly wagers like I do with lots of folks on this forum--but unfortunately majority in political section with opposing views is a member of the party of no--

My point was the bill doesn't help insurance companies. There are many insurers out there - big and small. Clearly, the way the bill was written, it will benefit BCBS over any/all smaller insurers.

But if it was written for the benefit of "all" insurers, then why are some pulling out of the market due to the regulation, and many laying people off?

Having one insurer in the market (and today most states have many, some small, some large) - while certainly exactly what Obama wanted, is certainly not good for the consumers.

I have little doubt that BCBS/Anthem was involved - as a way to clear the field of competition.

And, for the government to tilt the field to give them a monopoly was just wrong.

Ground Control to Major Tom...

We're in a serious recession. Do you think insurance companies are recession-proof?

You can't seriously believe insurance companies are laying people off now to prepare for a bill that doesn't kick in until 2014.

Trench - the last comment really showed how little you understand the bill.... and the whole Obamacare fiasco...

One of the biggest parts that hurts insurers (and many working Americans who are being laid off) is the MLR - which takes effect Jan 1, 2011. Insurers are laying people off, to be able to comply.

Agent commisisons are being cut, and customer service folks are being let go. Bare bones service going forward - at least until Obamacare is defunded or ultimately repealed.

I didn't realize the MLR regulations are slated to take effect that soon. But then, no one said healthcare reform was going to be painless for insurance companies. Some will have to adjust their business plans.

Forgive me if I'm skeptical of your claims of gloom and doom for the insurance industry. Aren't you the same guy who wants us to believe that doctors and nurses plan to leave the profession en masse if healthcare reform is enacted?
