Just got back and it is everything we heard about it. Absolutely beautiful and the weather was even better than here in SoCal LOL.

I can't tell you what a great time the wife and I had. We have a time share in Waikiki and this was the first time we were able to go. It was for our 22nd anniversary and it was great.

Anyone who hasn't went I really recommend it, it is worth the long flight, but it is a pain esp in coach.

We were able to upgrade to 1st class going, an anniversary present and that's the only way to go.

Well, now I have great tan, now I need to loose about 40 lbs. Make that 60lbs after all the Mai Tai's Pina Colada's and food.

It was great can't wait to go back.

I can travel to Playa Del carmen, Mexico for a week all inclusive for under $1000. Any idea what Hawaii would run..........in at least a 4 star or better?? I am curious?

boys...

i'm very down on mexico with all the stuff that's happening.....

they have a crooked gov't. who are encouraging their citizens to break our laws because they cannot supply employment for them....i heard that some in their gov't. took part in the recent marches in los angels....

they have the nerve to have a day of boycotting american businesses in mexico....

they have drug gangs running wild in many citied & towns....

so i think americans should show this ungrateful country what it is to boycott...& not go to mexico...

imo, people should go to american tourist
attractions instead....

until they change their attitude mexico will never get my money....

Thx AR, we thought the same thing. While laying on a beach lounge under an umbrella on Waikiki Beach, and sucking down a Mai Tai, we started figuring out how we could pull it off, moving there and being able to afford it. LOL

What a great area in and around Waikiki, it's like Manhattan, only right on the ocean and the weather is fantastic.

Hawaii can be expensive, but we found you can keep expenses down on food and entertainment, it's all in what you want. There are plenty of choices.

As far as rooms go, they can be quite pricey at the bigger resorts right on the ocean, that's why the time share route works well for us.

But as an example our time share property also serves as a hotel. It is an older property but right in the middle of everything and only one block from the ocean with ocean views.

You can stay there for $258 per night and that is a one bedroom 2 bath condo with kitchenette.
Not real swanky but definitely clean and comfortable.

Hope this helps.

Been to Playa twice as well as other parts of Mexico and spent two weeks in Hawaii for our honeymoon. There's no comparison. Sure you can go cheap to an allinclusive, but thats what you get - a cheap all inclusive. Went to Royal Hideaway and Aventura Spa Palace in Mexico, both great places, cant touch Hawaii though.

Also agree with AR, very down on Mexico right now.

We also have a time share in Puerta Vallarta and have only been there twice in 12 years. It's a great property we have at Paradise Village, but we have traded it for other areas of the country.

Feel the same way about Mexico, anytime your in another country it can be dangerous, esp now days.

You can stay at the resort and be very safe and comfortable, but going into the town or sightseeing and you once again know your in Mexico.

You are so right, so many Japanese, it makes you think your in a foreign country sometimes.

It's interesting, here in So Cal everything is stated in English and Spanish because of all the Mexicans. In Hawaii it's English and Japanese.

Oh well can't have everything in paradise.

Hawaii is sure nice!

Hawaii is sure nice!

Went to Oahu for my Bro's wedding last November. Put some of the pics in this album.

I like Mexico too, for change of pace (well, big change!) Cheap, interesting history, fine food in beautiful cities like Oaxaca. Yes, they are corrupt and ungrateful, but that's been true for centuries. Gonna continue for many more decades. Us gringos need to keep going down there to show 'em how its done! And take their women of course...

Terryray,

Thanks for the pics!

Back in the early 70's, I was stationed in Hawaii for three years.

Great time, great memories!

I went for 10 days in November and had a blast. Pretty expensive in Waikiki ( e.g. we went to pizza for 3 the first night and it was 55 bucks) and there is a Coach/Gucci store on every corner so the wife will spend some coin. However once you get out of Waikiki it's pretty cheap, we hit a fruit stand on the north shore and got enough food for 5 for 20 bucks, Chinatown in Honolulu and even went to Da Kine bail-bonds to see if they were real. Plan on going back but will go to the big island or Kauai. Also bring an extra bag we had two large bags when we left, one weighed in @ 35 lbs. and the other @ 25 lbs. when we came home both were right @ 50 lbs.!

Ctownguy, I can totally understand your affection for Hawaii, especially since it's your first time to the islands.

You may not understand it quite yet, but you stayed in the WORST part of Hawaii. Once you get to the other islands you'll never go back to Waikiki. As mentioned, it's overrun with Asian tourists, traffic, tee-shirt shops, general commercialism, etc.....the usual tourist stuff.....it reminds me of International Drive in Orlando.

Get over to Maui or the Big Island of Hawaii, especialy if you like golf. Kuaii is beautiful and relaxing. You'll find plenty of watersports (no, not THAT kind, "theBoys"), Golf, sightseeing, etc, without all the pushy Asian tourists.

Screamin, you have a good point and we are looking forward to seeing the other islands. My son in law and his family always go to Maui and they love it there.

Can't wait to go back and check it out.

Thanks for all the info.
