Ctownguy, I can totally understand your affection for Hawaii, especially since it's your first time to the islands.

You may not understand it quite yet, but you stayed in the WORST part of Hawaii. Once you get to the other islands you'll never go back to Waikiki. As mentioned, it's overrun with Asian tourists, traffic, tee-shirt shops, general commercialism, etc.....the usual tourist stuff.....it reminds me of International Drive in Orlando.

Get over to Maui or the Big Island of Hawaii, especialy if you like golf. Kuaii is beautiful and relaxing. You'll find plenty of watersports (no, not THAT kind, "theBoys"), Golf, sightseeing, etc, without all the pushy Asian tourists.

I was just about to type this very same information. Waikiki is like a tourist trap in paradise. It is still paradise, but you could do better. The big island or parts of Maui are equally or more fantastic. Less city-like congestion/traffic and a complete variety of flora and fauna (arid, tropical, mountain, beach).

Waikiki is annoying, but still fun. And in a sense it is a testament to America that Asians who have numerous tropical options in their own backyard choose to come to an American destination. It is just first rate all the way. You get what you pay for and can rest assured that you won't have to bribe a cop or anything.

Plus their drinking hours are liberal, and you cannot help but feeling relaxed from the minute you step off your plane. It's like the inhabitants know something about life that the rest of us don't.

Damn, wish I was there right now.

If there is a more gorgeous place on earth than Maui-- I haven't seen it.--and would concur with the rest--Waikiki is much diff atmosphere than other islands.
