Have heard both good & bad about the Vizio.

42' is a little too small. Need 46'-50' TV for this room.

As far as LCD goes, right now Sharp is on the 'A' level. You would be hard pressed to find a better TV than that. There are several others that are just as good (Samsung, LG, Sony bravia series), but at $1299, it's a STEAL. The cheapest no name brands in that size range were going for minimum $1500 last winter.

I have over 7 years of full-time selling experience with home theater/technology stuff, and some install experience, so I know of what I speak. I am no longer doing that type of work now.......not much money to be made in it anymore unless you live in a good($$$) area.....With prices like that, the stores are almost certainly selling below cost...

Since you guys are on the subject... How much difference is it between 720 & 1080 with the plasma sets? I know it depends on signal but say you are using regular dish network or direct.

Like I stated above I am no authority on the subject...but I really cant tell much of a difference between the two...

from what i`ve read and seen, sharp is a high end brand as far as lcd/plasma t.v.`s go.....

just got a big sony, and i was afraid it would be to big for my room.....i was wrong....what`s cool about is all the adjustments you can make to fine tune the picture to something your eyes are really comfortable with....

it`s interesting, though, the way the screen size varies.....you`ll have a limited amount of high def stations depending on your input source(cable/sateliete etc).... on my sony, the analog stations show a little smaller than the full 52 inches(bars on the side of the screen).....it`s still damned big....and there are controls built in that allow you to change the screen size regardless of h.d. or analog...you can stretch the analog picture to a full 52 inches, but depending on the program,it might look a bit distorted.....

it also has a zoom feature that gives you a closer look.....

all in all.it`s the ultimate adult toy...particularly for a sports fan....i`m still fooling around with all the adjustments a month after the fact...

the fight between joe calzaghe and mikel kessler in wales was incredible looking.........the colors...the intense clarity....and the sound(i`m sure you`ll hook up a surround sound system...that`s a must)....the sound is even better with my old equipment than it was(maybe the hdmi inputs?....probably not because my receiver doesn`t even have hdmi ports)........ ...i just know its better...

it`s pretty amazing....worth standing in line for(and i hate standing in lines)....

g.l.....

my circuit city was out of them by 9 am this morning...

I am also looking for a 37-42" LCD....probably going with the Sharp Aquos....

I saw a Mitsubishi 57 DLP at CC for 1299 and was going to buy it as my first Mitsubishi is still looking great as my centerpiece for my entertainment room, but the reviews on it were terrible.., seems like it crapped out on 5 of 6 reviews...didn't want to take that chance....

dr f...my last t.v. was an old mitsubishi 36" analog...i know the place i bought it closed in `96......and i had it for several years before they closed....so it`s probably seen a good 15 years of serious use....

i was waiting for it to give up the ghost but it never happened...got to the point where i figured it might outlast me....

so.i sprung for the hi-def.....you can get decrepit waiting for those old mitsubishi`s to crap out.....

i never liked those dlp`s....still somewhat bulky and the picture doesn`t seem as precise as the lcds or the plasmas..but,thats me...

I actually just went and bought the 57" Mitsubishi DLP for 1199...I just couldn't pass up that price and wanted a Hi def TV for the living room. We've been using the same 35" Proscan since 1992 (now going to the bedroom---if I can find 3 more guys to move it:mj07: ). The new one only weighs about 70 lbs...unreal

Spoke to a friend of mine and he had a 65" model and has been very pleased with it. He also has a LCD and said he would buy the DLP again before buying the LCD...

Like I said earlier the selling point was the Mitsubishi name. I have my first HD TV in my man cave and it is still working just fine and has since 2000...

They were sold out but I still got the price I wanted. Bought a Toshiba AD3 DVD player with the savings as well and now need to find a cheap surround system to complete the package. No way I give up my Bose for the living room. They can have a Sony or something...:SIB

Enjoy the holidays boys....thanks for the input as well

DLP seems to be the way to go if you dont need to put the TV on a wall.

Definately the most bang for the buck out of the 3 types.
