Eric: I had the same issue. Check the settings for your cable box. I fucked around with my TV forever before finding the solution was in my cable settings, not the TV.

One last detail.

The cable company remote works fine, except when I push volume. Although the bars go up and down, the sound does not change. I have to use the TV remote for that.

It sounds like you have an issue with the cable company remote not integrating fully with the tv.

That happens on occasion and if that is the case, not much you can do about it other than go out and buy your own universal remote (like a Harmony) and put the tv and cable box on that one remote.

I'll just use the two remotes. The volume doesn't need to be altered much anyway.
