Brett Favre will start the Vikings preseason game on Friday, According to ESPN's Cris Carter
Carter obviously knows a thing or two about Minnesota. It seems a little quick to get thrown right into a game after possibly three days of practice, but Favre will need all the work he can get with his new team - even if he does know Brad Childress' offense like the back of his hand.

Now maybe the Vikings can sell some of the thousands of available tickets for the Friday game that they couldn't give away yesterday.

I think I saw Favre play all of two times last year and both were losses and he didn't impress me in either game.
Will be interesting as he has some weapons and a stud back and a great defense.
Let's just see what he really has left.

Things definitely got a lot more interesting up here a couple hours ago. I think the positives definitely outweigh the negatives in this situation, and I think the team was going to the playoffs - with him or without him. I can't imagine the excitement here if he is just a serviceable QB at this stage, and they go on a playoff run.
The only thing that matters here, is if the club wins or loses. If they win, it will be a great thing. If they lose, it won't. In my view, it's a simple as that. I think it gives them a better chance to win, or at least gives them a better QB option than any of the three QB's they have - especially Jackson and Booty.
Since I'm not spending $12 million to make it happen, I'm gonna enjoy the ride. It certainly won't be boring over the long cold winter, now.

I agree Chadman. I am not getting an assesment on my season tickets, so, I'll root for him and the Vikes, hope he still has some magic, and enjoy it all the way.:toast:
Indeed enjoy the ride. Who knows seeing is how the NFC is not exactly loaded then this might be the greatest thing yet for Vikes.
Look at what Clemens did for the Astros. All he did was go 38-18 with a 2.40 era in 3 years and get them to the teams first WS appearance.

Maybe Favre is a same example of a team with load of talent and just needs that one aging star to get them over the top.

that's too bad....i wanted to see how sage would do.....thought that he would flourish with the vikes....but i guess vike management know what they are doing...

I think you people are confused with who Sage Rosenfels is???
Having watched him play in Houston the last few years, I can tell you this:
1. He can lose a game for you all by himself.(See Colts game or Vikings game last year). He had 2 fumbles and an interception in the final 4 minutes of the Colts game and Texans go from up 27-10 to down 31-27 in less than 4 minutes.
2. He puts up solid yardage games but he forces WAY too many passes. Just look at his numbers last year in 6 games he threw 10 picks and coughed it up 4 times losing 2. Also only threw 6 td's.
3. He had chances for wins late in 3 of the 4 losses of games he played in and was unable to finish the deal(Colts twice,Vikings). Ravens defense made him look AWFUL.
4. In 9 games(8 starts) in '07-'08 he threw 12 picks with 15 td's.
Sage is nothing to right home about and is very frustrating to watch knowing he is about to force a pass.
He is what he is, a backup.

I agree with Keegray on this one. Sage's ball just doesn't seem to have a bunch of zip and he does force passes..
Sage is an excellent backup because of his experience and ability to step right in and even win you some games for the short term.
A deep playoff run with him as starter would be because of Peterson and the defense, not Sage.

Defensive coordinators will not be able to stack the line and run as aggressive a blitz scheme with Favre at the helm. The offense will be able to run every play in the playbook starting about next week, and they never would have with T-Jax, and probably not for a long time with Sage. The defense-recognition factor with Favre stepping to the line compared to the other two will make a big difference, too.
There just is no comparison in my mind between these three QB's as to what is best for the team. Favre brings plenty to the table, just by being on the field, that they other two don't. I don't think he's close to what he used to be, but with this team, he doesn't have to be. Hopefully it can blend together nicely, but time will tell.

Seats for the game against Green Bay on Oct. 5 are only available through a season ticket. There are roughly 7,000 season tickets remaining. The Vikings had to race to beat the blackout deadline for several games last season.
