Sports insisted, much to my chagrin, that I start a thread instead.

no you didn't, you just rejected it. No counter offer, no explanation of what you didn't like about it. If you don't like trading and want to just sit on your team then fine but it wasn't like that offer didn't help your team. It's nice when you respond with a reason Mister Turning over a new leaf...............

Dude everyone likes trades that benefit them more, the idea is to make FAIR trades. Why the hell do I need Gates when I have Bennett and Pitta? I will trade you my kicker for Gates? That would be even.
