So, what are some scenarios in which you guys hedge parlays? I am sitting on a 4 teamer risking 150 and pays a little under 2k... The final leg is a game I have a straight play on also... Do you hedge it?

What if you are sitting on a +680 moneyline dog and as the game is getting near the end the dog is winning SU and in game you can now hedge the opposing team as a dog... do you hedge?

Just wondering if you guys hedge... and some hedging scenarios you guys have/use.

Thinking out loud...

150-2k ratio I would try to find a way to hedge where worst case you walk out of there with at least a nickel...either way you get a significant win, feel good about it and you can still root for your original wager...I'm not really hitting anything else of significance tonight, love to hear your play so I can root for ya

To achieve a balanced return regardless of which team wins, you have to divide the return of the initial bet by the price of the opposite outcome, i.e. 410/1.85 = 221.62.

Yeah... I got all that... I was really just looking to have a discussion about hedging. Do people do it... What scenarios do it... What does it say about the gambler if they do hedge or do not hedge... Etc... The goal was not necessarily to parse this specific scenario. I appreciate the feed back though...

If you take pride in matching your proven handicapping ability and your ego against the Linesmakers ability to set a line that mystifies the entire sportsbetting world, don't hedge.

If you're looking to build your bankroll, hedge.

I always hedge, no matter what. Whenever you have a guaranteed way to make money, do it.

Yes, sometimes you will lose the hedge and and not make as much money as you could have. Usually I try to hedge for half of original payout, but at the very least if given the chance you should hedge for the cost of original parlay wager so you are ?freerolling? the wager.

1 concept about hedging big parlay payoffs...

if you like 4 tms... find a late gm big favorite (OR leave an open spot for the next day even) and if/when the 1st 4 tms hit
THEN

look for a big favorite on the ml... -500, -600 -800... put that team in the open slot (it won't increase the parlay value very much, but that's ok)

THEN

you can play the other side ML at +350, +500 or whatever and creates a "win good chunk no matter what" scenario...
u can even take plus pts and hope for a middle

example:
if you're planning a 150 to win 2000 parlay with just 4 tms... add a 5th tm (BIG Favorite on ML) that starts LATER, AFTER the other gms have finished... lets say it is -600, and parlay value now goes up to 2100 payout...

1st 4 gms all hit... last leg starts in an hour... you're looking at 150 to win 2100

take the other side ML at +450.. lay $400 on it

you either win original bet (and clear $1700 profit)
or
you hit the hedge (and clear $1650 profit)

or scenario #2
you can put some money on the "dog +8 pts" or whatever, AND some on the dog ML... hope for a middle if the big fave wins but doesn't cover the 8pts..

obviously you can plug the specific #'s into your parlay calculator and come up with whatever you think best.

but searching for a gm to close out the parlay, and set up the nice hedge is a great scenario to my mind

gl on your plays
