When you're going through 2009's college football odds to pick a Heisman winner as well as a national championship, try and stray from picking from one school for both wagering selections, as it rarely works out that way.

The first BCS championship game was held after the 1998 regular season, when Tennessee beat out Florida State. The Heisman winner was Ricky Williams of Texas, who never even went on to play in a BCS bowl that year. Seven times, a Heisman winner has played in the BCS title game, and their team has come out on top victorious only once. This was in 2004, when Matt Leinart led USC to a 55-19 mauling of Oklahoma in the championship game. Other than that, it's led to a 2006 blowout as Troy Smith and Ohio State got pounded 41-14 by Florida. The other games were entertaining: Reggie Bush and USC's (which still had Leinart) 41-38 loss to Vince Young and Texas in 2005 is arguably the greatest college football game of all time. Online betting players were also biting their nails throughout last year's 24-14 win for Florida, which featured the last two Heisman winners (Florida's Tim Tebow in 2007, and defending winner Sam Bradford of Oklahoma).

So what is the best way to go about this if you're a betting management player? Well, you can never say never: Tebow's Gators are the massive favorites to win the national title for the third time in four years, and it's no surprise that he's slated to battle it out with Bradford and Texas' Colt McCoy for the Heisman award. Tebow and Bradford, however, are facing history: only one man, running back Archie Griffin of Ohio State, has won two Heisman Trophies, and that was in 1974 and 1975, so they'll have to put up outlandish numbers to sway a panel which has long been based on tradion. This leaves the door open for McCoy, but he (actually, all three of these players) would trade the Heisman for a national title. The Heisman/BCS races of 2009 figure to be the most exciting in recent years, and you'll have to figure out a foolproof sports betting system to figure it out.
