I don't know what side of the issue you may be on, but this is a bad idea. Sometimes people need protected from their own stupidity. I have wrecked a motorcycle and will still not ride without one, ever. First one of these "real men" who cracks up his two wheeler and ends up stupid because of a hit to the head gets what he deserves. Funny thing is you till have to wear a seatbelt in your car.

Ask Gary Busey about helmets.

He cracked his skull in LA when he flipped his Harley and his head hit a curb. That guy wasnt right before the accident.

Hey penguin remember this one ?

Why should anyone care if people dont want to wear a helmet while riding. The only one that they will hurt is themselves. If you are not paying their health insurance then I dont see what the big deal is.

This is a choice that adults should be able to make on there own.

Ive rode with/without a helmet and my personal preference is with. But I also feel that the govt shouldnt make someone wear one if they dont want to.

bubbas.... i am SOOOO in agreement with your analysis of helmet use!! personally, while on a bike, choose to wear one, just as on a snowmobile, becuase i have NEVER EVER heard of a helmet being listed as a cause of death in an accident where a helmet is concerned.

however, i am extremely against a seat belt/car seat law, and never wear one (nor do my children)

i have had two relatives, and triplets of a very good friend all die in automobile accidents, where reports have said, had they NOT been in carseats and seatbelts, they probably would have lived.

don't like the government being able to make personal choice laws to MANDATE my safety.

you laywer sorts out there.....what kind of case would people have against the state/states, if findings were as stated above.

would they be able to sue the state for MAKING them buckle up or face a fine??

By that logic we should legalize crack because why should anyone care if some A-hole wants to kill himself with it. I understand why people are passionate about government not making decisions for people, but this is a no brainer. I think some people don't want to wear a helmet simply because their was a law saying they had to.

Bubbas1, I do understand your point, just think greater good is accomplished by making people do the right thing, glad you wear a helmet when you ride, smart thing to do.

I will still wear a helmet and if that makes me a sissy then I guess I am a sissy without a BIG FRIGGIN CRACK IN MY SKULL.

The idea of drugs being legalized is not a bad one.

Since we have no lifeguard for it, there has to be a way of eliminating those folks from the gene pool. And stupidity has a built in way of doing just that. The goverment can't protect people from themselves so whatchagonnado?

Comparing doing crack and wearing/not wearing a helmet is totally off base.

I have never heard of anyone robbing /stealing because there was a law against without a helmet. Not so with doing crack though. The point is crack will lead you into doing other illegal things ..there is no doubt about it. Not wearing a helmet will not make you rob/steal/give up everything you ever cared about.

I have never heard of anyone not wearing a helmet because the govt says you have to. (Seatbelts..thats another story) Most dont wear a helmet because its to hot..want to feel the wind...and they believe it should be an individual choice.

You would think the govt would have more important things to worry about other than if I wear a helmet or not.

Now a quick opinion on seatbelts. I have never wore one and dont plan to. On the other hand whenever my son gets in the vehicle he has always been made to wear his. When he gets 18 then he can make the choice on whether to wear one or not. It falls into the catagory of do as I say and not as I do.

wow....absolutely one of THE most assinine things i've ever heard of!!!

not only do helmets help lessen the severity of a head injury....they look way cooler and most certainly offer a welcome reprieve from having to look at someone's bad 'do or mug!!!

for the most part....laws regarding safety are implemented simply because most individuals need to be saved from themselves!!!

Chrryblstr...not everyone wants the govt to over regulate so they can be saved from themselves. You would probably be the 1st to want the govt to lower all speed limits to 20mph because that way there will be no more deaths on the highway. Just think of all the people the govt would save from themselves:rolleyes:

Bottom line is it should be a personal choice because it affects no one but the rider.

I live in Iowa and we are smart enough here to let bikers make up their own minds as to wear a helmet or not...I personally very rarely wear a helmet when on my bike, but the freedom to make that choice is one I am happy to have. Congrats to Pennsylvania for passing this law...:D
