It has been a long time since I have been there but I think you'll like the Silver Legacy.

As I said it has been a long time since I have been there but I liked it.

Good comps as well (although maybe that has changed?)

i know this isnt vegas but i'm heading to reno for the usbc tourney and need advice on the best place to stay

thanks

When are you going to be out there? I'm there for the tourney last week of March. If you stay downtown, you won't have to rent a car as the stadium is within walking distance and you can grab a shuttle to/from the airport that runs almost 24 hrs.
The three casinos that are all attached directly across the street from stadium are the circus circus, silver legacy and the eldorado. circus circus is the 'budget' one of the three--rooms are decent--the mini suites are your best bet-but the casino is old, dirty and smelly and the rooms are a long way away from the casino.
Silver legacy is the next step up and your best bet if you want to stay close to the stadium. rooms are decent and there are several good restaurants including a steakhouse and brewpub in between the legacy and the eldorado. about the only difference between the legacy and the eldorado is the price of the rooms. they are the same in quality--maybe some fresher paint at the eldorado-- but since they market the eldorado as the 'upscale' casino downtown, you pay a bit more to stay there.
Best casino of the three is the eldorado while the cal-neva has a great race and sports book and they offer 3 dollar blackjack and craps almost all day long. Place is a real dump with very shady characters and homeless people wandering around but they bring you drinks faster than you can drink them. Very stingy with the drink tickets when wagering in the book, but the snack shack always has things like 3 dollar hot dogs and Heinekins or 4 dollars for 3 tacos and a sierra nevada pale ale so you can still drink cheaply. Or better yet, place a bet or two, head back downstairs to find a blackjack table with a TV hanging over it, play 3 dollars a hand bj and drink them as fast as the waitresses can bring them to you.
There are a couple of other hotels within walking distance of the stadium downtown, but they are even seedier than circus circus so I'd choose between these 3 if you aren't planning on renting a car. Other than the really cool automotive museum there isn't much to do in downtown Reno--stay off the streets at night unless you are just crossing the street to go back to your hotel because you were bowling the 8:30 pm team shift.
If you are renting a car to play some golf or to take a trip up to Lake Tahoe--which is a very nice drive--then you can stay at the Hilton or the Nugget in Sparks as illuminati stated. My wife has gone with us a couple of times and we stayed up in Tahoe on those trips--really nice places up there--about an hour drive from the stadium.
Circus circus just sent me an e-mail about reduced room rates if you book 30 days out from your arrival--if you are interested I can post the code here or you can get my e-mail from the mods and I can send it to you.
If you haven't bowled in the stadium before, prepare to be blown away the 1st time you walk in. I've bowled every Nationals they have held in the stadium--this will be my 7th trip to Reno--and its still a rush to walk out on the lanes and bowl there.

Are they playing at Lawler or the Bowling center?

I haven't checked the local paper since football season.

While in town, go to see Harrahs Auto Museum :0074 :0074 :0074 You won't be dissapointed. The Brew Pub close to campus is packed with major talent.

I don't know what your time restrictions are? But if you do have the time, venture West up I-80 to Truckee,CA to go to Donner Lake and see the Donner Museum

If you Ski or Snowboard, North Star is the place to go, wider range of slopes. Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley are more advanced hills.

I'm going out there next week. I bowl the 10th and 11th. My 29th tournament! I'm old.

I'd say Silver Legacy. That was my plan until Atlantis sent me a promo for 3 free nights so staying there but will hang at SL a lot. Atlantis has a shuttle to the stadium. Free always works for me.

Very nice steakhouse at SL. I recall an oyster bar too I think.

Good luck out there. I'll give an update when i return.

thanks for the info guys, hope you all bowl great. the shot will play similar to last years as the oil pattern is increased one foot longer to 41 feet. the volume of oil is also beefed up in the heads. if you listen to my blog at www.above180.com, i just interviewed the guy that does the lane oil pattern. his name is eric pierson.

my ball suggestion is a strong solid or pearl sanded down to 1000, 2000 or 4000 abralon contingent on your speed and hand action...

good luck all :0074 :0074 :0074 :0074

Very cool, Baby Johnson. Nice interview with that guy; you and your partner were very thorough in your questions for him. great to hear him talk about practicing on last years pattern and not getting hung up on what the shot will be like this year. Some of the guys I go with get all psyched out about the pattern every year and I think it costs them come tourney time.
Bought a pearl and had it sanded to 2000 last year when in Reno for Nationals and had a decent tourney--will be starting with that one this year and hoping for the same(or better) results....:0074

good ball but the cover is only average in strength

the core is the strong suit, creating the backend motion.

if your speed is from or your rev rate average or less you may want to sand the shell with 1000 or 2000 grit abralon sanding pad

good luck out there

63 degrees and sunny here! You gotta be shittin' me!

So far so good. Bowling bag made it here in one piece.

Played 3 college games and now just waiting on bro in law.

Need a nap! I'm whooped!

Will go to the lanes tonight probably and see how things look. Scores appear high already to me.

Later.
