Just outside of Mobile on the eastern shore of the bay, Daphne area, anyone have any info, advice, warnings, tips?

Local area info, best places to live, will probably get an apartment at first if hired. Local cost of living, taxes, fun spots, entertainment. Questions for me ?

Thanks in advance.

Never lived in that area, but have visited a few times. Right about now Marde Gras should be going hot and heavy. Mobile is a wonderful town. You should enjoy yourself. About an hour from the Mississippi casinos. About an hour and some from the beaches in Gulf Shores. Don't know where Daphne is in relation to Fairhope, but Fairhope is the town to live if you have a choice.

Good luck

There is an awesome seafood place downtown. I can't remember the name of the place.

Was there 3 years ago and I was brain dead.

Mobile is a fun town. There is good night life on Daulphin St., downtown. It is kind of like a mini-French Quarter (New Orleans) without the trash and porn stores everywhere.

Area is growing. Fairhope is a beautiful little town. My brother used to live in Daphne now lives in Loxley. All are very close to one another. Born in Mobile but never lived there as an adult so can't help you on the bar scene but I know there are PLENTY of them. Mobile has a minor league baseball team with a great little park and fans. If you want the pros you gotta go to the Saints and Hornets of course. I been to the seafood restaurant in Fairhope and also can't remember its name but it shouldn't be hard to find if you just stroll around downtown. Don't think there is much to do in LOxley or Daphne themselves and if you have to commute into Mobile from there traffic can be rough going thru the tunnels and bridges over Mobile Bay.

Thanks Guys your responses exceeded my expectations. I have been told by a local that Fairhope was a good town to reside in.

treyburn good idea!

h3, I love seafood, thank you

Ocelot, I have had thoughts of living in Loxley simply because of being westbound into Daphne in the AM, & eastbound into Loxley in in the PM thus having the sunrise and sunset at my back instead in my eyes both ways. I enjoy the Columbus Clippers, so I will check out the baseball in Mobile.

gordon I have seen that street on the map, thanks for the tip.

kc, I will find out the name and post it for you, sounds like you had a blast while there.

chainsaw one local I spoke with said the same thing about Fairhope.

tj I think the Alabama faithful may be more devouted than the local Buckeye crowd, if that is even possible :) my kids are grown so school system is not personally important, but a key component to any area's growth.

Thanks again !
