progress report: I went almost 4 hours without a cigarette this morning. I finally broke down and lit one up. It tasted so disgusting that I only smoked about a third of it before putting it out.

Hey Agent...if you think my contributions to the site are just "clutter" then don't read them. I know of plenty of people who quit by cutting back slowly, instead of just going cold turkey; some of them have contributed here.

Don't get me started on your "fixed games" theory. Talk about "cluttering up the forums".
Sheesh!

Seriously, thanks for trying to help.
Maybe be a little more sensitive in the future.
I AM going to give this a serious go.

Hey, speaking from experience, what you need is a kick in the ass and motivation, not sympathy and coddling.

Just trying to spur you on a bit.

As for the fixed games, I won't argue in this thread but feel free to bring it anywhere else.

Agree with agent: QUIT-QUIT-QUIT
Disagree with agent-avoid the triggers. Where ever you keep the smokes(shirt pocket etc) Don't put anything in there.- stay out of places where there are smokers-you will Know how bad you smell when you quit for awhile. FYI - 96 hours, all physical symptoms will be out of your system. You will taste your food, smell things you forgot. Now you have a mental habit to cure.
If all else fails, light up a cigarette, press it to your wrist and quit until the scar goes away

"the bunker"
10 cups of pot-brewed coffee a day?....along with the cigs?.....

man...you`re playing fast and loose with your health...

maybe 6`5" can help us out,but i always thought that large doses of caffiene can seriously drive your blood pressure up......and the smoking can constrict the vascular system...

so,you have a two-fer that together can be potentially dangerous to you....if you happen to be sedentary and a tad overweight, you have a couple more risk factors....

seriously...go to the doctor and get the drug...i heard someone discussing it in a doctor`s office and thay said it was the only way they could have ever quit...

don`t wait till some permanent damage is done...do it for your family....

My willpower doesn't seem to be enough to get it done.
I drink a lot of coffee, too, which I think I'll have to cut down on if I'm going to pull it off.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I quit smoking on Chantix though I have tried to do cold turkey on two occasions, but of no use. I have smoked for around 5 yrs with pack a day. Thanks to chantix and the support my family provided me. It really helped me to get over my nicotine addiction and I don?t feel craving anymore. There is one thing which I would like to share and which helped me a lot initially, try having a glass of water when you feel craving the most. It a tough road but it's worth so best luck to all those who want to give up smoking.
