I like PITT....Not big but I like them....and I'm not being a Homer!
I know they haven't looked great and the Big East as a whole hasn't looked great but think it starts to come together this week with the running game for PITT. The first 5-8 mins of the game is going to be huge for PITT. I know they're home and that should give them an advantage but they need to come out with controlled emotions and not over persue and take penalties (false starts, encroachment, etc) if they can withstand Miami's first punch (Miami's first drive or two)...I think they will be ok. I know that sounds backwards since PITT is home but I think with the time Miami has had to prepare and them coming off a loss they're going to come out fired up also. PITT needs to withstand their first punch, realize they can play with Miami and gain that confidence.
If this was on a neutral field I would have to take Miami but I think the homefield will come into play tomorrow night.
I know Miami has a good DL and a fast team so I expect a lot of screens and cut back running to use Miami's speed against them and to protect the sub par OL PITT has (the subpar interior 3). I'm going to mention this a couple times but they did have 2 maybe 3 weeks to prepare for this game so hopefully the line gelled a little in that time. Also I'm sure they will have the FB Hynoski, who's a beast in the backfield to help pass protect. If they can get some screens and runs going then they can take a couple shots down field to Baldwin and use his size against the smaller DB's of Miami. This will also help take pressure off of Sunseri the QB. He needs to complete some short passes and screens to get him comfortable and in a rhythm also. If they double Baldwin theres still a big receiver in Shanahan who's also like 6-5 I believe.
Defensively its going to be tough with Romeus being out because of back surgery, their leading tackler and LB Mason getting demoted (off field issues I believe), and DeCiccio nursing a hamstring, also DeCiccio's backup Taglianetti is hurting also but think these guys will play gived the magnitude of the game. If they can confuse Harris with some different blitzes and looks... Pitt doesn't Blitz a lot so Miami probably doesn't have much tape on it... then they might have a shot. In my opinion I know Harris has all the tools and can be a stud but he is a little erratic. If he is on his game then PITT is going to be in a lot of trouble because their secondary is suspect. They need to get Harris into tough situations. I'm hoping Harris struggles and with 2 weeks of preparation (maybe 3 weeks of prep since it didn't look like they game planned for New Hampshire...LOL!) PITT can draw up some different looks and be discipline with their gaps. I also think with PITT being at home (we all know home field is big in college football) they should be playing fast...Add in the noise because Heinz Field should be rocking, that should give them a little advantage and help slow Miami down.
I think (I hope) they show the nation something tomorrow night. Until I really sat down and looked at some stuff and thought about the game I was taking Miami but only at -3. Hope me going against my initial thought doesn't burn me...Not a big play by any means but I'm taking the home team and the pts. Hopefully it goes up a little more. I see 4.5 I'm jumping on it.
Good Luck on whatever you play!
I'll be on the field for the game so I'm going to have a good time either way:mj07:
Good Luck!
Would like to hear others thoughts!
