Do you have an Owner's Manual? I have a different HDTV (a Samsung), but the way the red light on the front flashes indicates what kind of problem it is having. There should be a manual for it online if you don't have a paper copy.

Sounds like you either have a dying bulb, an overheating problem (or overheating is falsely being detected), or an electrical fault. These TV's are so fragile there's a thousand things that could go wrong with them.

And ya, I wouldn't be too keen on hiring the guy who admits right off the bat he hasn't got a clue.

Heaven, oh!!, this isn't it?!
Do you have a cable box installed?...............

Mine actually would turn on, sometimes, but not picture for about 2 weeks. Had a friend over and he said it might be the box. Two days later with a new box, the TV worked fine  .....Mitsubishi :)

Check that just in case..............

If it makes a clicking noise when it is blinking it probably is the on off sensor, which goes bad at times had to have to replaced on 2 different big screens, if you run it a lot of times it is caused by the heat messing it up. cost was 145 bucks parts and labor on each one. Mine would come one just like your's did slow at first then after awhile they both went black and you could hear the clicking noise of the TV trying to turn on. But would go right back off.

If rebooting whole system did not help you need to let it set for at least 10 mins and reboot everything not just TV, do them each by them self that way if you have a bad box and you just plug TV in with box being discounted from TV cables and all not just pulling the plug from box, the TV will come on with snow if it is bad box, then reboot box and hook back up and then plug in if black again chances are the box but if TV is black with box discounted and still blinks and clicks it is the on off switch burnt out.

There is a little reset button on the front of the tv., the size of a pin hole.Get a paper clip or pin and push in for 30 seconds, but first unplug the tv for 30 minutes, then plug it back in and hold the reset. This works on my big screen Mistubishi.
