are you high, you better stick to stats and math.
thats was a 95 mph fb from a 3/4 lefty, the same pitch he blew by him on pitch one,but to call a high heater at 95 a gift is absurd.
he earned that and it was about 420 to 435 feet.
its not easy to hit a dong even if people serve it up in bp for a contest. try it sometime,

LMAO Yeah ok...whatever

A pitcher no one has ever heard of before tonight comes in to throw consecutive fastballs.....like Bonds isnt good enough to time it and catch up to one after seeing one or two?

Lighten up Fletch....it was a joke

The pitcher would never admit if it was a gift. Some will believe it was, some wont.
I think it was. Big deal.

Reroy....

Did you watch the entire game?? Did you see how the Astros intentionally walked him in his previous AB after being down 8-1?? Did you see how the home crowd reacted to 3 days of seeing Barry pitched around then getting an intentional walk in a 8-1 game??

Did it surprise ANYONE that some no name comes into the 9th and throws heat right down the heart of the plate??? LOL Come on, get a clue for pete's sake. That was the most predictable sequence of events that I have ever witnessed in pro sports.

Koty..no I didn't watch the game. I just can't see the Stros playing gracious host after they had already given up 24 runs to SF in 3 games and were in the process of getting swept. They walked Bonds 8 times in the series and still gave up 25 runs, they couldn't have done much worse by pitching to him. I had read that fans booed the walks to Bonds throughout the series, but I still have a hard time believing that they would play santa claus after knowing a sweep was inevitable and they had fallend into 2nd place. I will work on the "getting a clue" part. And I REALLY can't see the Dodgers throwing bp fastballs to Bonds, so if he hits 71 or 72 or whatever, I would have to guess he earned those as well.

That "no name" you refer to kotexboy; is a 22 year old rookie pitching in his 3rd-- got that??-- THIRD major league inning!
The guy got to the majors because he could get minor leaguers out with his fastball. When he threw that first fastball by Bonds, he figured he could throw three of them past him. WRONG! ANY experienced big league hitter would have hit that pitch out of the park. Why? because it had NO movement on it, not because it was "grooved" or whatever the f#@k you think they did so Bonds would hit one out. If anyone needs to get a clue around here, its your sorry ass....

I think it was a gift. Bonds fouled off a fastball that went about 400' right before the home run. The pitcher did not shake off the catcher, so the fastball was either called from the dougout or the catcher. Granted no matter what pitch you throw, or where you throw it Bonds still had to put the ball in the bleachers, and he did. He is a great talent but is a complete a-hole and I for one wish he was not in the record books for this feat.

Hoyt,

Thank you for proving to me that other people here arent afraid to go against popular opinion to state their own opinion.

My basic point is this......the Astros manager knew full well who and what he was sending to the mound in the 9th inning. He knew that this kid only has heat and that he would try to throw it past Bonds....knowing full well that Bonds would probably catch up to him on his second or third pitch.

I dont mean to discredit the man, but the sequence of events just seemed a little fishy to me.

I wouldn't say it was fishy, necessarily.

In a 10-2 game, relievers don't come into the game and nibble at the corners. Their job is to throw strikes and if the hitters hit it, so be it.

Don't walk guys, throw your best pitch, and let's get out of here as painlessly as possible.

Plus, in Rodriguez, you have a young guy who is probably thinking "I just smoked one by Bonds, I can do it again", then he doesn't throw it exactly where he wants it (ie it's not quite as high and too much out over the plate), and buh-bye.

As a baseball bettor, you should also know how many times "meaningless" homers bite totals players :) This sort of things happens all the time, it just happened on a much more exposed scope than usual.

the foul ball was a up and in tight slider at 86 not a 95 mph fb.
just wondering how many of you guys played pro ball or even top college baseball. major difference between a gift and a hard but flat fast ball.
the kid has a gun for an arm but is flat so he will need to take alittle off by useing more pressure on his finger tips which will give him better movement. you can't make a pitch go flat but you can make movement.

What an asinine post you have made redsfann. Is there some reason to revert back to first grade tendencies and start making fun of people and calling them names? Damn, I've never seen someone get blasted like this for making some casual remarks. I'll probably get blasted for this too as that seems to be the norm in too many discussions, but so be it. Lighten up guys!
