Corpse, gurney fall from truck
DALLAS The body of a Louisiana man strapped to a gurney fell from the back of a pickup truck today onto a south Dallas highway.
Mary Ellen Douglas was driving to work when she saw what she thought was a package that had fallen from a truck.
She says in The Dallas Morning News that she didn't think it was possible for that to happen.
Authorities say the driver was carrying the body to a Shreveport, Louisiana, funeral home after the man died Monday at a Mesquite hospital.
Dallas police Lieutenant Rick Andrews says the driver of the truck was not aware that he had lost the body.
Andrews says the driver saw the open door, then retraced his steps and found the body.
Drivers swerved to avoid the corpse and gurney.
