just got this from another forum & thought some might find it interesting...i haven't verified this for accuracy......

Since 1985, a team that HAD NOT finished in the TOP 6 in Scoring defense (points allowed) during the regular season had never won a SB.

I questioned this stat immediately and did some homework to see if there is some truth to it.

Since 1985, only 3 times did that tidbit not hold true
1998 Denver- 8th in scoring defense
1997 Denver- 7th in scoring defense
1989 SF- 8th in scoring defense

So, doing that digging you can conclude that since 1985, no team less than 8th in scoring defense has won a SB.

In 2006, Scoring defense...
2. NE
3. CHI
13. NO
23. Indy

Very Interesting but believe it is of no real help in the playoffs. NO or Indy could still win in the playoffs and then face either NE or CHI. Will definitely keep this in mind come Super Bowl time should either NE or CHI make it to the final game. BUT, a NE vs CHI Super Bowl would then pose a ? Anyways, thanx for your efforts.
