just got this from another forum & thought some might find it interesting...i haven't verified this for accuracy......
Since 1985, a team that HAD NOT finished in the TOP 6 in Scoring defense (points allowed) during the regular season had never won a SB.
I questioned this stat immediately and did some homework to see if there is some truth to it.
Since 1985, only 3 times did that tidbit not hold true
1998 Denver- 8th in scoring defense
1997 Denver- 7th in scoring defense
1989 SF- 8th in scoring defense
So, doing that digging you can conclude that since 1985, no team less than 8th in scoring defense has won a SB.
In 2006, Scoring defense...
