what the fawk are you doing leaving your starters in until 1:30 left, when you have like a 25 pt lead with 4-5 mins left show some class and take your damn starters out, let them leave to a big ovation you a$$, yes I'm bitter toledo played poorly, but if randolph and fawking dockery arent throwing alley oops and tossing in shot after shot with 3 mins left up 27 the bet may have cashed, I guess he wanted to satisfy the alums but jeezus christ, joplin's sittin there shaking his head, that clown has to rub it in, hopefully he gets his in time when NC wipes duke's collectives a$$ses, we can only hope, what a shitty end to the day

This isnt anything new. You have to factor in the Coach K prick factor when betting against Puke.

NY Sports...your right about the sportmanship. But Toledo is getting some exposure on national TV.
Last tuesday nite at the Texas-North Texas game. The line is Texas -22.5.With 6 minuts to go and Texas up by 23 ...Barnes puts in his 1st string. Gibson,Alridge,Tucker, etc and puts on a half court trap. They get 4 or 5 turnovers and score in the next 4 minuts and the score is now a 30 pt lead.Marcus who actually did nothing for the 1st 54 minuts get 2 or 3 slams and scores 8-10 pts.

A few yrs ago Army played Duke. Now Coach K coached at Army. There was no line on the game but if there was I would of taken Army. You figure it would be Duke -35."K" would call off the dogs after it got over 25 pts.I'll never forget the score. You could have had Army at +48 and you would of pushed. Final score Duke 101-Army 53.Now he did sub and army was bad but still...A few yrs before that in the NCAA's I had Monmouth at +36 or 40.I lost.
Tonite I was smart and took the Blue Devils.
But they will get there's.Karma,payback..whatever.Same with Barnes at Texas..Eddie Sutton wil go it or Williams at NC

How about, WRONG. Roy Williams took the starters out with TWELVE minutes left tonight in the 2nd half because he has class. He's not a prick like K. It's not our fault we go 8 deep.

Saint - Roy has run it up on plenty of people in the past. Judging by the score, and that the lead was about 30 at the half, I am guessing 12 minutes left wasnt early enough. But it is certainly better than what some do.

I didnt see the UNT-texas game, but I did read taht Barnes was very unhappy about how they played. Apparently they let the game get down to 10 or 12 in second half. It read like the bench stretched it a little and he put the starters in to actually do something. MAYBE I can see it if a team is working on something, but generally it is classless. Especially for a team like Puke, that notoriously goes 7 or 8 deep and has 6 cheerleaders on the bench. Those guys should be getting PT to try and become something.

Looking at the box score Roy didnt play much of anybody more than 20 minutes so props for that. Gotta wonder just how bad the 3 guys are that only got 4 minutes each

read any of coach K's books and you'll find him very sanctimonious ... never once mentions he rips his players as badly as anyone and curses a bluestreak--makes himself sound like francis of assisi with some Gandhi garnish ... I have another good in person story, too ...

saint...whay I meant to say was that Barnes and "K" will get theres.By coaches like Williams and Sutton. Not by them running the scores up.
Mismatches are mismatches.A few yrs back Williams was accused of it to.He beat 3 or 4 teams by 50 pts or more all in a 2 or 3 week period.
I have a good Coach K story ..I'll write it tonite

glad coach k can help bridge the gap between tarhole and texas fans. duke has 8 scholarship players[one of which paid his own way as a freshman and then received his grant as a sophmore]. they also have an ex football player on roster. yesterday the starters played 123 minutes which is the same number of minutes texas starters played in 95-63 rout of tx state. barnes only played 9 players in that game. versus chaminade in 84-62 blowout, barmes used eight players. versus tenn in 95-70 rout he used 9 players, with taylor going 35 minutes. against north texas he used same 9 but did give 2 minutes to his tenth man. duke played 11 players last night. duke will lose 6-8 games in the conference to the deeper teams like ga tech, wake and unc.come acc tourney time however they will be a tough out for someone with their backcourt and their half court game. as for you, ny fan, you were foolish to bet against duke at cameron when coach k was going for 700th win. i have stated this many times here, play duke games under. coach k does not want any track meets. next year 5 or 6 great recruits should be on team and you will see duke playing a faster tempo.

Texas only has 13 on the roster. 2 they are looking to redshirt if possible, 1 is Mike Williams who just finally got ruled eligible a week ago, and 1 has been injured. That would leave 9 only to play in those early games. Two of the starters referenced above, Alrdidge and Gibson, are true freshman, and Aldridge missed half of his last high school season due to a back injury. I dont condone anyone running it up, but those guys obviously do need some minutes.

Good replies guys, I enjoyed yours Box about Barnes, I know you've posted how he's a jerk and you had some stories about him. hey lowell, I don't care if he has 5 players and no bench, he was pressing and trapping with a 20 something point lead with 4-5 mins left, yes it wasnt a smart bet but hindsight is 20-20 buddy, I know you're taught not to let up and to give the effort for the full 40:00 but jeezus, take shelden williams and randolph out with a few mins left instead of having them jumping through the roof for put-backs, and coach k sitting there while he was probably looking at the scoreboard to see if they were covering to please his alums, but roy williams would never pull this crap, Gary Williams doesnt either, some guys actually have class and dont wanna rub it in beyond belief, it just shows when you see their cocky a$$ students and fans, if you've ever met a duke alum or know someone who is, you know what I mean

No doubt Barnes hasnt been concerned about making friends along the way. Running up the score isnt his real issue from what I have seen. The UNT coach is a friend of his, one of the few, so I really doubt that was his intent in that game. Regardless, he just doesnt seem to want to be friends with anyone. Probably came from feeling that Clemson got screwed by the big boys all the time. Some would say he is a jerk, some that he stood up for his school when he thought Duke and UNC got to run things. Like many things, I guess it depends which side you are on.

Roy has certainly run it up before, but it isnt a habit by any stretch. He and Barnes have had words - all the games have been close (at Kansas and last year's tourney game) so the score obviously wasnt the problem. I dont know but I think it pertains to recruiting. I met Roy at last year's Final Four. He was very nice and I of course didnt give him any grief. I have read Box's story before about Coach K. It is nice, but appears to be far from the norm from all that I have seen. He has had moments that make Bobby Knight look like an angel, but the media loves him so much they dont care. His players have had questionable academics (although most schools have 80% majoring in sociology dont they?), his players parents have on occasion conveniently get high paying jobs in Durham, and so on. He violates the NCAA rule every year by not talking to CBS at halftime, sending an assistant, but no one says a word. I tend to doubt Coach K is thinking about the pointspread, but he also has never been one to find second gear. Some would say it is competitiveness, some would say classless. I guess it depends on your persepctive. But I do find it odd that those same folks who chastise Knight for cursing and running off players, dont seem to have any issue with Coach K.
