No doubt Barnes hasnt been concerned about making friends along the way. Running up the score isnt his real issue from what I have seen. The UNT coach is a friend of his, one of the few, so I really doubt that was his intent in that game. Regardless, he just doesnt seem to want to be friends with anyone. Probably came from feeling that Clemson got screwed by the big boys all the time. Some would say he is a jerk, some that he stood up for his school when he thought Duke and UNC got to run things. Like many things, I guess it depends which side you are on.
Roy has certainly run it up before, but it isnt a habit by any stretch. He and Barnes have had words - all the games have been close (at Kansas and last year's tourney game) so the score obviously wasnt the problem. I dont know but I think it pertains to recruiting. I met Roy at last year's Final Four. He was very nice and I of course didnt give him any grief. I have read Box's story before about Coach K. It is nice, but appears to be far from the norm from all that I have seen. He has had moments that make Bobby Knight look like an angel, but the media loves him so much they dont care. His players have had questionable academics (although most schools have 80% majoring in sociology dont they?), his players parents have on occasion conveniently get high paying jobs in Durham, and so on. He violates the NCAA rule every year by not talking to CBS at halftime, sending an assistant, but no one says a word. I tend to doubt Coach K is thinking about the pointspread, but he also has never been one to find second gear. Some would say it is competitiveness, some would say classless. I guess it depends on your persepctive. But I do find it odd that those same folks who chastise Knight for cursing and running off players, dont seem to have any issue with Coach K.
