I see all your and others hoopla on O peace prize--and was wondering if you or any others could explain to us which actions he did that would put him along the other recent winners -Carter and Gore).

I have read full text of transcript and fail to see any actions other than rhetoric--enlighten us.

transcript--

"The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.
"Obama has as president created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.
"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.
"For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

However glad for all concerned he could join the rest of illustrious qualifiers this decade--

While I'm not sure I agree with this, I do not have the comparisons, information, or requirements for awarding the prize. What I do know is that the rhetoric, as you put it, is what can be considered important, especially considering how much different it is in this country. He is motivating, a great communicator, working to repair damage done previously here and abroad, and is reaching out to the world in new ways. It's refreshing, it's important, and I'd say probably lives up to the ideals of the prize.

I realize the whole "PEACE" prize thing is a kind of foreign concept for many here, and abroad. Some here are more comfortable with the "KICK ASS" prize, which is easier to accomplish, and understand.

I don't chime in often and don't have the desire to pull out researched data but I'll offer my opinion as to why he received it.

Quite simply, under the W administration (I voted for W both terms) the US of A, alienated itself or did not adhere publicly to the advice of other nations withiin NATO, sometimes simply with the swipe of a hand as they spoke (so to speak).

Obama has been more of a political figure, offering what our administration hasn't which is to listen, absorb the facts, come to the table for negotiation, all necessary in the political front.

Is he deserving? Not in the league of of award winners.

Did his "olive branch" allow other nations a chance to exhale and relax so to speak after 8 years? I think so.

It was his campaign of a new America (yet to seen) that got him this award.

Was it deserving. Time will tell...

Woodson, a well thought out response. Chadman also has very good points. I agree with both of your responses. I see no need to criticize Obama for something he never sought. But it is typical, jumping on Obama for everything, including the accident that happened down the street.

Carter: Obama's Nobel 'bold statement' of support

Email this Story

Oct 9, 9:14 AM (ET)

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former President Jimmy Carter says the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to President Barack Obama is a "bold statement of international support for his vision and commitment."

Carter won the peace prize himself in 2002, two decades after leaving office. In a statement, he described the Nobel committee's decision Friday as support for Obama's work toward peace and harmony in international relations.

Carter says the award shows the Obama administration represents hope not only for Americans, but for people around the world.

..................................................................

This is all that needs to be said about Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

Tis for hope. And not only hope for America but for other countrys as well.

I know you neocons will never understand this because all you care about is your pitiful selves.

CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN !

<!-- end .byline -->OSLO ? President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in a stunning decision designed to build momentum behind his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism.

He won because of George Bush.

Bush was the worst president ever and people are so ready to move past his trainwreck of a presidency that Obama seems like a saint compared.

I understand that you dislike our president dtb but this cancels out any thinking that the world dislikes or is tired of this guy.

This shows that Obama is loved by the world and you just can not handle that.

Its sad really.

Interesting thought. Last week it was embarrassing that Obama got involved with the Olympic movement, and due to him being involved it was a great embarrassment for our country and for him. Now, he wins the Nobel Prize, and he and the organization are being ridiculed and it should be an embarrassment for him and our country.

Here, let me help you conservatives out moving forward. Just copy this on a note pad, insert words for the dots, and use it for all your remaining posts.

................. Obama ................. da base ............... embarrassment for America.

You're welcome. This should work for all of you. It certainly is easier than thinking about anything.

(CNN) ? A Democratic National Committee spokesman said Friday the GOP has "thrown in its lot with the terrorists" in criticizing the president's Nobel Peace Prize award.

?The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists ? the Taliban and Hamas this morning ? in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize," DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse said in a statement.

"Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize ? an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride ? unless of course you are the Republican Party," the statement also said. "The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It's no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore ? it's an embarrassing label to claim.?

I repeat he has done nothing, I challenge one of you to name anything he has ever done beside talk? I am all ears
