Why ?

RHP Jake Peavy is 5-0 with a 1.01 ERA (5er, 44.2ip) and a .183 opponent batting average
in his last seven starts dating back to August 30 (includes postseason)...the Giants have
won all seven of those starts, outscoring their opponents 30-11.

The Giants have reeled off 12 wins in their last 13 post-
season games, backed by a 1.06 ERA (15er, 127.0ip)...
included in this stretch, Giants pitchers have fashioned
a 0.74 ERA (6er, 73.0ip) while winning their last seven
road games, tied with the 1992-93 Blue Jays for the
fourth-longest postseason road win streak in Major
League history, and the longest among National
League teams.

Jake Peavy sucks in a big game and really sucks in Bush Stadium. The Giants are THRILLED they got the game one win.

The Giants will now look for Peavy to extend that staggering success, though he's 0-2 with a 9.88 ERA in three career postseason starts against St. Louis

"I got a lot of work ahead of me," Peavy said. "

Giving Lance Lynn some support would be a welcome change. The right-hander has a 2.45 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 33 innings over his last five starts, but is 0-2 due to a paltry run-support average of 1.64.

Lynn fell apart in the fourth of Game 5 the last time these two met in the playoffs
as he attempted to start a double play with one out only to have his throw bounce off second base and into center field, leading to four unearned runs in a 5-0 loss. The Cardinals would have clinched the pennant with a win.

"I know that we had a chance to win that series and I didn't get the job done," Lynn said. "Whenever you don't get the job done, it definitely is something that you don't forget."

A few reasons why...
