Ok so this has nothing to do with SPORT.
This morning I get to work & find out we have a 18 yr old male atop one of three construction cranes on our property.
Anyway to make the story short he climbed up at 2am. The crane operator made is daily 35 minute climb to his perch when he noticed the kid around 4am. Two cops went up to try to talk him down to no avail. I arrived on scene at 6:00 am. I heard a construction worker yell "Jump you PUSSY."
He did just that 45 mintutes later @ 6:45. The moment he threw his shoes off the platform & I knew he wasn't planning on climbing down. Anyway we are building a Condo Complex and it's in the early stages. Sticks of rebar (sp) approximately 30 feet in length sticking straight up, was directly under him. He didn't want to impale himself.
So he backed up and got a running start and did a swan dive (both arms completely out) not a word from his lips. He did miss the rebar but landed in a 24 inch gap in the 3rd floor and crunched up like an accordian. His chest was completely open with his organs hanging out, head split open but ironically not that much of blood loss as one would expect
Anyway that's how my day started.
I've seen other jumpers before (4 total on surv systems) but never at this height. 5 or 6 stories or so. I've also witnessed other suicides involving firearms, suffacation, overdoses and hangings personally, but after the fact.
What would cause a kid of 18 to this point?
Girls? Drugs? Trouble with Johnny Law?
