The game against Kent State (20-12) is interesting for a couple of reasons.

First, the Golden Flash play in the Mid-American Conference, which is considering WKU as a possible member if it chooses to expand.

?You have to wonder if the NIT committee took that into account when they were making the matchups,? Selig said.

Second, Kent State is coached by former Western Kentucky assistant Jim Christian.

He was a part-time assistant under Ralph Willard from 1990-1992 and a full-time assistant under Matt Kilcullen from 1992-1994.

Horn was playing for Western during that time and developed a close friendship with Christian.

?He?s one of my closest friends. Most people have three to five people that they are really close to, and he is one of mine,? Horn said. ?I?d rather not have to play him, but that?s not going to change anything we do. This is still just going to be another game for us that we are going to try to win.?

Western Kentucky?s game is part of the NIT opening round, which includes six games.

If the Hilltoppers win Wednesday, they will play either Wichita State or Houston in the first round.

The site of that game will not be determined until the opening round is complete.

If Houston wins, Western would have a much better chance of hosting that game, according to Selig.

?I think Wichita State is a lot like us,? Selig said. ?They have invested millions of dollars into a renovated, on-campus facility and they draw very well.?

Wichita State has an average home attendance of 9,638. Houston averages only 4,245.
