There is really no reason to get bloody like that. We use a rope stringer, get however many people necessary to block the hole, one person pets the top of their head while the other feeds the stringer thru their mouth and gills. You can then walk them to the bank. I would guess the larger one to be at least 45 pounds. Definately some of the best eating around. By the way they are flathead catfish. Haven't been hand fishin' in many years. Still catch some on trout lines and bank lines. Best bait is a 6" perch or gold fish. Flatheads only eat live bait, that is why they are so much better eating. A 45 pounder will have belly meat at least an inch thick. Taste and texture is very similar to lobster.
I thought Hoggin was where you get a group of guys together and go barhopping and try to find the fattest chick to take home at the end of the night. Whoever takes home the fattest girl wins. Needless to say, I never was good at that game.
How soon we forget, Ronnie. What you described is called "slump bustin'" where I'm from.

the catfish get in stumps or logs that are submerged. People with local knowledge wade out and feel in these for the fish. They then grab them out. Just google noodling for more information.

PD1 or six five. Could you explain to me what is going on here? How do they know where the fish is and exactly what is going on? Explain this to me like you are teaching a five year old child. I have no clue what is going on in this video
The flatheads are looking for a place to lay their eggs. It could be any good sized hole. I've seen them in 55 gallon barrels, under big slabs of concrete, up under tree roots growing out of a bank, anywhere. You just have to wade down the side of the creek feeling for holes.
These fish live in the large lakes. They go up into the creeks that run into the lakes in the spring to built their nests. They go under the rocks here in Missouri when the wheat turns brown ready for harvest. "when the wheat is brown the fish are down". There will usually be 2 fish to a hole, a male and a female. Not all fish do this at the same time. I've seen as many as 6 fish come out of one hole in the same year.
In the film they could have got those fish from man made barrells or something similar. They just don't make a hole out in the middle of nowhere.
